Could any current or former Mids comment as to the approximate number of Indians(Asian Indians) at the Academy. I know for admissions purposes they are categorized as Asian(although I was able to specifically mark Indian as my race). Could language skills in an Indian language be a boost on the application? I am a 2020 candidate and have already completed the app, just waiting on Dodmerb qualification and nomination.

Think last year 2019 class they had approx. 87 Asians?? Think being Indian prob helps more than Korean or Chinese?? I heard for majority of Ivy League schools Asian males needs to score better than other race for example Asian males SAT 2400 is equivalent to white male 2260 to White Hispanic male 2160 and black male 2000???? Think MIT & Cal Tech don't take legacy into consider and California State schools like UCLA Berkley doesn't weigh score by race?? I don't know if this applies to SA??

Also Ivy League & top colleges take high % of legacy students ex. Look at Princeton a school with maybe less than 7-8% acceptance rate accepts 38% of all legacy students who apply? Parents who went there undergrad & big $ donors & or active with alumni events etc? Guess on another note, legacy kids prob more previleged better educated better schools maybe more talented (I don't know). I am curious how legacy and donation works with SA??

I assume when you say Indian, we are talking India?

@Craig I would guess so. I'm also Indian(From India), and was wondering the same thing. Although for the rest of my college apps(including some Ivies), my scores are more of a disadvantage because of the point that @Blessedmom made above about Asian Male 2400 is eq. to White male 2260.

Think school looks at whole person are you first in your family to goto college, are you majoring no traditional major for Asian male, parents low-income, hardship etc, think most difficult case would be affluent Asian males in STEM with educated parents:)

@Blessedmom I do find myself in the most difficult case. Looking to major in STEM, both parents have masters degrees, I go to a private boarding school, and parents can afford to pay for college. I was however able to mark down that I am a first-generation American on the USNA application...At least in most of my apps I could include my desire to serve in the military, which is somewhat rare for someone from my cultural background. Although I hope I would be able to get into USNA solely on my own merit...

Your genuine desire to serve our country will show in your application, your family is able to afford expensive colleges but you have a desire to serve and goto SA;)

Not a current/former mid, but here's a study(it's a bit outdated) done on race and admissions to SA's: http://ceousa.org/attachments/article/663/ceousa-service-adademies.pdf

"There is no evidence that Asian applicants receive special preference at
either of the military academies. In fact, there is evidence that the Asian
applicants with the same academic qualifications find it somewhat more
difficult to obtain admission than do their white counterparts at both
academies."

The study goes on to compare the average class rank and SAT scores of appointees of different races; Asians have the highest average of all of the races in all of the categories.

@frenzymando This is why I know I will have to get in on my own merits, although I believe my SAT's are a bit higher than the Asian average for an SA. I think OP was simply asking if language skills would add something extra to the application...
