Waiting for BGO interview to show on CIS

Daughter interviewed with BGO on 11/24/15. Interview hasn't been submitted as of 12/17/15. Is this typical? I know that they are volunteers and some presumably have more candidates to interview than others. Daughter has emailed BGO twice since interview as BGO asked daughter to "remind" her to get the interview in. No response to either email or a voicemail message. Daughter has a nomination so I'm just wondering. She has been qualified medically and "passed" CFA. Any thoughts? Should she continue to attempt to contact BGO to get the interview in or just wait?

I hate to sound dismissive but forget it for now. He said "remind me" and he has been reminded. The Academy tracks whose interviews are not in or late and pressure is put on the BGO from the Academy end to get it done. That is not to say it may not be done until Jan 31 but it will be done. It does not hurt your daughters application. Good luck to her, in any case.

Just as a for-instance, I let my interviews sit and cook for a couple of weeks before I submit them and I re-read them a couple of times to see if my write up should change after reflection. A BGO also may want to have a number of interviews done to mentally rack and stack them as grading is done based on all of them.

Thanks for the input. I will take your advice and do my best to forget it since it doesn't affect her application.

My sons BGO interview was in June I think, and it took months to show up. BGO said his report had to be approved by someone else. It eventually poped up.

The best book I have found for a candidate is "The Naval Academy Candidate Book" by S.Ross found on Amazon for $20.. So much, in fact, that I have my candidates read it before they start their application. The others I have not found worth the money.

If your BGO still has not uploaded the Interview onto the CIS, and you have contacted him/her, what is the next step? just wait?

I would wait a little longer. If you reach the 24th (a week from the deadline) and see nothing, it may be wise to send an email asking if s/he needs any additional information from you. Above all, don't annoy/bug them. They are very busy people. More than likely they'll get it done and your fears will be unfounded.

As a BGO, I have a slightly different view. Interview write-ups should IMHO be completed as soon after the interview as reasonably practical while thoughts are fresh. Some BGOs may want to wait before submitting for the reasons stated above but (again, IMO) submission should not be delayed significantly once the candidate has completed 100% of his/her packet.

In my view, there is no excuse for more than a month to go by without submitting the interview. That's just not fair to an anxious candidate who worries that the BGO forgot and is at a loss as to how to proceed. Yes, BGOs are busy people but we also agreed to do this volunteer job and thus there is an expectation on the part of candidates and USNA that we do it competently. So it annoys me to read the above.

It is true that USNA does put pressure on BGOs to complete interviews once the candidate's package is otherwise complete and, eventually, the package will be reviewed without the interview. But that really shouldn't happen absent a totally unforeseen event and, even then, the BGO can notify the Area Coordinator who can sort everything out, including updating the candidate as appropriate.

At this point, I agree it doesn't hurt to wait for another week to contact the BGO but it's a sad state of affairs.

DS had a different experience with his BGO. The BGO came to our place to interview DS one afternoon. A few hours after the interview, DS checked his portal and saw that the BGO interview (result) was submitted. This resulted in the application status changed to ‘Complete Pending Review’. We did not know what to make out of it.

A week later, DS had an interview with the MOC nomination panel, and turned out that one of the panel members was his BGO. DS has yet to hear from the MOC about nomination. We are patiently waiting and keeping our hope alive.

I agree with you USNA1985...there is almost no excuse for later interview submissions. Another BGO sitting on a MOC panel to which he/she interviewed the candidate....yikes!

Will an application be penalized for late BGO Interview submission? Because regardless the application is still incomplete even though everything possible has been completed.

No.
