So I know about the required nomination and the physical, academic, and leadership requirements but what does applying actually look like? What are the parts if filling out ones profile inline look like? Will there be an essay required? Will there be a place where I can list my achievements ? If anyone could help me out and give me a general idea I would appreciate it.

If you are a High school Junior you can go to the sites and fill out the applications for the Summer Seminars/Summer Leadership experiences..That is actually the first part of the regular application. If you are at all interested you need to do that ASAP because the summer programs have very few openings, and there seems to be some preference given to those that sign up early. Some open Jan 15 some shortly thereafter.

There are several essays, Name a challenge you had in your life and how you overcame it. How do you feel about diversity. Why do you want to attend this Academy and why do you think you will make a good leader, that kind of stuff.

a section to fill out your achievements, clubs, school, community , sports ect, grouped by year 9th grade 10th etc.. They want to know what your leadership position is in each of these areas, always keep in mind they are all about making leaders, not just soldiers.

I am a Sophomore and I've joined their mailing list.Ok thank you do much.I was just wondering what I should expect.Thank you very much.

So as you consider joining clubs, sports activies ec.. You need to try to get leadership positions, not just particpate. Doesn't have to be class pres. can be Treasurer or Secretary etc..

Plan on going to "American Legion Girls State" summer after your Junior year. Which you may have to juggle with the Summer Leadership experiences if you are lucky enough to get accepted. Start going to the Academy days when they are offered in your area.

You are getting a good start by checking in now, but are by no means ahead of yourself. It really is a long process and if we could could have gone back and started earlier we would have. Go back to the top posts in each of the different forums there is a section where the Moderators have separated out important info that is asked over and over.

Oh ok thanks.Ive already become president of the Community service group Im Im and Ive been verbally sworn into the position of section leader in marching band. But it is a little intimidating to join a group and feel like I have to be president.

Maybe you can find someone who is at your high school who is applying and they can log into their portal and let you get a look at the application. It starts out by asking for information that determines if you are competitive for the academy. If found to be so, the next section of the application opens where you will enter all of your activities, write essays, link to references, and answer other questions that will help the academy determine if you are a good fit. It's not "secret squirrel" kind of stuff...ask around and see if someone will allow you to view it. Your counselor might know of an applicant at your school.
