If they do not inform you that you failed or need to retake it, chances are- yes you passed.

I just took it today, so I don't know if my JROTC instructor submitted yet. How long does it usually take for them to let you know if you failed/need to retake it? Thanks

They notified my son of a need for retake within 2 days of submitting, so usually pretty quickly...

This person did better than you in every category except the mile run(you beat him by 19 seconds) and failed. I think it could go either way.
I believe the other guy failed because he ran a one mile in over 8 minutes. All it takes is for one aspect to fail and the entire CFA is a fail.
Is the bare minimum score 8:00? I have read quite a few threads about CFA scores and I haven't read of anyone with a 7:52-8:11 so I can't tell you if 7:52 passing or not. That's why I think it could go either way. As far as I know they do not publish the bare minimums, but if we can find someone that ran a 7:52 or slower that posted their scores that passed the OP should probably be good.

Thank you all. I also found a thread where the candidate passed with these scores:
Throw:60'
Pullups:10
Shuttle:8.8
pushups:55
situps:76
run:7:39

I did the same or better in all the areas except the mile, where I was 13 seconds slower. So I guess it can go either way.. I'll post back if I find out or not.

If it gets submitted by tomorrow and I do not get a notification by Friday, would you say it's safe to say I passed?

Beware if they offer a 2nd chance they typically will tie it to a drop dead date of submission.

That run is low. The BBall is also below the avg.

Just saying, while you wait to hear, run...run...run, and than run some more!
~ No offense intended, but I don't want to read any excuses...too cold, too wet, twisted my ankle, etc. etc. etc. This will be part of your life in the near future, be it USAFA or AFROTC. They will not want to hear what is called...quibbling. They will nail you for it, and not in a nice way...think bullseye on your back. Just accept and move on.

In the end the way appointments work regarding charging is the highest WCS wins. The CFA may account for very little, but it can be the make or break between getting charged to your MOC slate (appointed) or being sent to the national pool.
~ Don't leave any points on the table that you have control over. The CFA is one of those aspects that you control.

Let's say they only offer 1350 appointments. There is always going to be that #1351 that just missed out. It is not like they say 1351 goes Prep. That is a whole different game. Do you want to be saying/questioning come April...had I just ran that mile at 7:30 on my re-try or thrown the BBall 71 instead of 63 would that mean I would have garnered an appointment?

When in doubt, just ask your USAFA Counselor. My DS thinks he has borderline CFA scores (some events just around the average, some just below the average). He didn't hear anything about the CFA after over two weeks, so he sent an email to his USAFA Counselor. The USAFA Counselor said USAFA does not notify the candidate unless he/she fails the CFA and the USAFA Counselor also said DS passed the CFA

Thank you everyone for your comments. I asked my ALO and he said that he does not know whether my score is passing, so I will probably email my admissions counselor just to make sure. It has been about a week now, and there has been no notification on my portal. So I think that means I passed, but want to be sure.

Unless I failed and they closed my file and did not bother notifying me.. Would I be able to see that? It seems logical that if I can continue to log into my portal and there is no notification of failure that I probably passed.

Once I know for sure I will reply so that any lurkers in the future know whether these scores passed.

You won't see a notification on the portal if you passed, only if you are ruled ineligible or need to retest.

Those numbers look good. My son was even with you or below your numbers in everything but the mile run. He submitted in October to meet the Early Action deadline, but stressed that he could have done better on the PFT if he waited until spring. But, he made the choice to go with the scores he got in October.

Luckily, he made it, but even though he was an athlete, "in shape", and made the CFA cut...he wasn't near prepared for the PFT and AFT once he got there.

Pima is right. You don't want to leave anything out there. But, if it's already submitted, I wouldn't stress about it. If the rest of your application is strong, those scores should be enough.

Keep up with the cardio though. You'll need some heavy duty lungs in Colorado.

Good luck!

If you have a nomination, I doubt they would close the file.

Do I think you passed? Yes. However, we still get back to charging the appointment.

I can't stress enough that between now and I-day (hopefully) you need to push hard on the cardio. We were lucky enough to view the first Doolie run around the Terazzo the morning after I-day and it was not pretty. It was a great view from the chapel wall as Aggressors through Hellcats did their first 1.5 mile run. You had your cross country and track athletes far ahead followed by a large group of kids that seemed to be doing fine ( our DS was in this pack and had run everyday for lacrosse in the spring.). After these groups things broke down quickly with quite a few stragglers and walkers (complete with encouraging cadre by their side). The point is there are quite a few kids that show up in poor shape and when you couple this with the thinner air....well you get my point. If it is within you means consider heading to the 'Springs a week early and run ever day. It really helped our DS.

Thank you all so much for your replies. I have a JROTC nomination, a nomination from my Senator, and am waiting to hear from my Congressman. I will continue to push myself so that I will be as prepared as possible for BCT (if I am appointed).

My DS was notified he needs to retest by the 25th.

His scores were ...
45 ft Basketball Throw, 15 repetitions of Pull-Ups, 8.8 seconds Shuttle Run, 53 repetitions of Modified Sit-Ups, 62 repetitions of Push-Ups and a time of 7:05 minutes/seconds on the 1 Mile Run.

He's been training, as much as he can in the two-ish weeks since receiving his notification.

I'm seeing that there really isn't any published minimum scores, just averages as stated in his retest email. However, it seems like there really is a minimum since he's being asked to retest. Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

I'd say that the basketball throw and situps are his two weakest areas, and if he can get those as close to the averages as possible he will be in good shape to pass. For basketball throw, look online for videos that show the proper technique, it helps significantly.

Note I said pass, obviously he should strive to max in all of the areas. I recommend he look up Stew Smith and do some of his workout plans. He could apply the general layout of the two week pushup plan to situps as well.

Thank you - we have been looking at videos, I got Stew Smith's book, and he's doing better!

Obviously, any prep is better than none, but what really helped me improve was doing the entire event in sequence. I followed the times and standards exactly and did it once maybe twice a week, and my scores, especially the mile, improved a lot. Just a thought...
