I am looking at changing my major on my application portal for AROTC to a different major than I previously listed. However, I was wondering if this would make me appear "uncertain" or "wishy washy," since I have already changed it once before. Can cadet command see how many times I've changed it? I'm looking to double major (French + Computer Science) and that's why I tend to keep changing it. Since I can't put both majors, I've been rotating (originally had a biology major then changed to French). I am certain I want to major in French, that has not changed, but I am wondering if I would be better to put computer science since it is a STEM major?

FYI DS wanted to double major in Psychology and Communications but he was told that even though he will already have several credits done AROTC will only pay for the courses for the major even if you will be done with less than 120 credits (sem hrs) that if you are taking courses for an additional major/minor you will have to pay for those. There are exceptions to just a BA but the extra would be for industry certifications or Masters or for the extra year or two for BA/MA BA/JD combo programs think there is a combo for Pharmacy or another medical I saw at a ROTC school.

I do not believe this is correct. Several cadets at my son's battalion/school were double majors, all had scholarships and none had to pay any extra for the second major. As long as you complete both majors within the four year timeframe you are covered, if it take longer then the four years or you are going after a Masters then that's a different story. My son double majored in History and International Relations, he was never charged any extra and his scholarship covered all tuition costs, he finished in the required four years.

+1 Jcleppe,
My DS has a major and a minor and his ROO and PMS have not had any issue with it.

Perhaps the difference is some schools charge additional per credit over a threshold? I know some do charge additionally if you go over 18 credits.

Good point, my son's school had a limit of 20 credits. A couple semesters my son had 22 credits, while he had to get permission from his advisor to take over 20 credits, it was never an issue since ROTC counted for 6 credits during those semesters and all his classes were required for graduation, the Army still picked up the extra cost.

In the end it will come down to the specific situation for each cadet.

Thanks good to know that may have been just for that school. There are a couple schools out there that actually require a minor and promote double majors so obviously those they would be set up to cover the major/minor in 120.

Son graduated with 162 total credits, although 29 were from AP classes. The army paid for 133 with no problem.
