I'm a freshman IC, if you have any questions about that sort of thing then I can help. I can also answer general stuff about freshmen year.

Probably no one is given preferential treatment for being an athlete correct? Are you at least given some leeway when you travel for games and such? I read somewhere that walk-ons are welcomed, is that true or does it depend n the sport? Sorry for all the questions, doing research for my DS.

That depends on who you ask. ICs are excused from a lot of training events as freshmen but spend way more time training with the team than the average doolie does with their squad. The coaching staff usually handles all the academic leeway needed when travelling as far as DF are concerned and there is usually an instructor assigned to travel with a team and proctor exams if necessary. Walk-Ons are welcomed for most sports...but, just because the coach says you can practice during the summer (when the rest of the basics are doing intramurals) doesn't mean you have a permanent place on the team. It isn't uncommon for walk-ons to be cut as soon as the school year starts.

Just curious. Did you attend the summer seminar? Thanks!

I did...thoroughly enjoyed the experience and it gave me some grounding to make my decision.

How easy is it too walk-on? Can you give examples of sports where students do walk-on?

I know of at least 3 people who have walked on to cheerleading. In Basic, you would be given the opportunity to try to walk on to an IC sport instead of participating in intramurals. In my opinion, if you want to play a sport, go for it. If you don't make it freshman year but are still interested in playing, I'd say keep practicing and try again the next year.

Anyone walking on to the soccer team that you guys know of? Thanks.

I don't know of anyone who has walked on to the soccer team, but then again, I don't know anyone who has tried. I do know someone who walked on to gymnastics. But again, I'd say just go for it if you want to play soccer here. It can't hurt to try (and it gets you out of intramurals).

In my experience, most sports have kids walk on during the summer, but few of them stay on the team because the competition is pretty rough,
