I took to the USNA subreddit and asked this question, one of the relies recommended I go here for answers.
I'm a White male from western NC, currently a Senior at a K-12 public school. I have 3 congressional nominations (USNA, USAFA, USMA). I'm medically qualified I got a 1690 on the old SAT (2400) I am the captain of the Varsity Basketball and Varsity Soccer team. I also run Varsity track. I'm taking 3 AP's this semester (I will have taken 5 by the end of the semester). I'm finishing up my Eagle Scout project, I'm the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. I'm the SGA Vice President, Beta Club Secretary and in the interact club this year. My prior roles have been Class treasurer, Beta Treasurer and Interact Sgt. At Arm. I attended Boys State, and was told during my BGO interview that I was not admitted to Summer Seminar because it conflicted with Boys State. I had my BGO interview in July, and have tried to keep in touch with my BGO on a monthly basis if possible. My packet has been complete since the end of November.

Sorry no-one can handicap your chances! It is now in the hands of Admissions. We nor you do not know the others that are in your district or on your slate. Trust me I know this is a very tough time for you and your family. PATIENCE is the key.
I would guess USMA will be doing their first BFE's soon. Last year my daughters came via email during the Super Bowl. Then USNA. Then USAFA. You do not know. Overall you seem like a great candidate, but again only time will tell if you make the cut. Again be patient.

Thank you for the answer, it's not so much my parents that are worried since this has been my goal not theirs.

I will handicap the chances. Great ECAs. Dismal SAT. Being a white, male, senior in high school puts you in a competitive category. If you're not a blue chip athlete, you better have a good plan B.

I understand that my SAT is poor compared to other mids, but there is always going to be someone better. And I understand that being a white male also puts me in a competitive category, but I am hoping I make up for it by being a geographically under served area and through my ECAs. Thank you of your insight, I knew that there would have to be some negative replies due to the SAT scores.

That's not a negative reply. That is an honest answer. If you wanted a sugar coated response you should have said so and I would have sent you some smiley faces.

Your math and CR scores are the most important. Even if you had a 600, 600, and a writing score of 490 you'd be a longshot.

Curious though, your BGO told you that you didn't get into NASS because of a conflict with Boys State? That doesn't make sense to me.

How many are in your senior class? What's your class rank? You have lots of positives, but it will take a lot of luck for a white male, fresh out of high school (as in no prep school, or enlisted, etc) with your test scores to be admitted.
:) :) :) :) :)

I agree with Maplerock. I've been told by admissions counselor in my area to get SAT scores up to the 700s for a good chance of an appointment. SAT is the best indicator of collegiate success and those who tend to do better also have a higher rate of graduation (from a study on applicant accepted by service academies). Higher the score, higher the WCS. For now, we all just have to wait and see. Good luck.

Your Congressman is representing your district and by law they are allowed 5 charges just like every other MOC. I don't think you understand how appointments/charging works. You will be placed against the others on that congressional or senatorial slate. Not sure or understanding your position that it is geographically under served. Ate you approaching it from a diversity aspect or the fact that typically nobody in your area with noms., gets appointed?
~ USNA has a diversity program, and it is not just based on race, sex or ethnicity.
~Your PAR is huge for the WCS when it comes to charging an appointment to the MoC.

I agree that you have amazing ECs, but academically impo, you should look at USNA as an Ivy league with an emphasis on STEM.

Honestly, we get it, you and every other candidate is nervous. You want some insight, but nobody here sits on the boards. We can all say you look great and for today, tomorrow or few a days you will be happy. However, during that same time you will start to see the appointment list on this site grow and that will impact you too. Point is...move on to plan B, and if plan A happens, than great, but if it doesn't you are in good company with many other TWE recipients.

1690 on the old SAT? I thought 1600 was the max on the "old" one? At least it was when I applied. My SAT was only 1180 on the old 1600 max one, but I was fortunate to be offered NAPS. I made it through USNA and served 5 years. My brother was similar and they offered him NAPS as well. He is now an 0-6 on his last tour. SATs aren't the only indicator of success. Some of us aren't the best at test taking, but you better have everything else zipped up and it looks like you do. Good luck!

The SAT is undergoing a "facelift" in March of 2016 administered tests, so I think that is the reason the OP is calling it the "old" SAT.

You and everyone else in the country, who have a nom, are waiting the for the roller coaster ride of anxiety/chaos. Just remember that, the Admissions staff meet every Thursday and update portals for the lucky ones "Congratulations on your appointment to the USNA" (possibly worded differently). You will be stalking your post man waiting on that BFE!

Remember, you put together the best package that you could. Now, continue to work on your various backups, enjoy the rest of your senior year! Remember, this period of our lives is filled with lots of stress. As a future officer and leader, you will encounter various levels of stressful situations. This starts you on that process on dealing with stress. Just as Pima has stated over the years, nobody here, at least publicly, sits on the Admissions board. Granted, I go to same school with parents of kids who do sit on the board, but Ill never use that to try to get information from my friends or their parents--too awkward for me. No one here can help you with your question of what are my chances.. This is JMHO.

I am not sure what you mean by a "geographically underserved area"? If you mean that you are in a sparsely populated state, all that means is that you may have an advantage in getting a nomination in that you are not one of hundreds of candidates applying for an MOC's 10 nominations. However, everybody goes before the Admissions Board and if you don't make the cut, you don't go, no matter where you live.

I live in western NC where my MOC does not fill up his 10 nomination slots for the 4 academies he can nominate to.

Thank you for your answer, the wait is definitely stressful, but my Plan B said I will know by Feb 15th. What is a BFE (I know the street slang version ;)), sorry this was my first post to this forum.

Thank you for your reply, gokings814 is correct, the SAT is removing the writing section in March, now the new SAT will be a 1600 instead of a 2400,

Thank you for your reply, I have 3 service academy noms, my MOC does not fill up his 10 nomination slots due to the lack of interest in the academies in my district. What are PAR, TWE and WCS? Also what does academically impo mean? Academically impossible? (Sorry i'm new to the forum and had a lot of acronyms thrown at me in this forum). As for the STEM part, my 3 major choices are all STEM majors, but I understand what you mean (My plan A is Navy, Plan B is Air Force and Plan C is West Point, joking of course, but that is the optimism I have :))

There's an acronym stickie around here - very helpful. TWE = thin white envelope (dreaded rejection letter), WCS is whole candidate score. I have to look up PAR. IMPO is "in my personal opinion".

Thank you for your reply, those were my exact SAT scores, yes I was told that NASS conflicted with Boys State since the 3rd session was the same week as Boys State (At the time I would have gone NASS over Boys State, but looking back Boys State is more beneficial for me in case Plan A does not work out.) I go to a tiny k-12 public school (100 kids in the high school) my class is about 30 kids and i'm ranked 5th (the top 6 of us are all competing for Val and Sal due to the closeness of our GPA/grades). Also thank you for the smileys :), but I am a realist so sugarcoating is not necessary.
