Prior E chances of getting an EA in AF ROTC

How's it going people , I'm currently at a juncture in my life and really need some help deciding on my plan. I am an AF E-4 intel analyst considering joining an AFROTC detachment if I separate active duty this July (det 538 in Rochester to be exact) and would like to get some insight into a few things. Already have my ccaf multiple cleps and a good gpa from Kaplan. Also I will be pt guard at an mq-9 squadron so hopefully that will help too. Should get some awesome bullets out of that. Killed this many hvis did over watch of this many forces and so on so on..
1. Have you seen many prior E's not get commisoned without screwing something up big time ( dui, sexual assault, lying) if I decided to not re enlist this is going to drastically change my financial situation. I'll be losing an awesome job and an satisfying salary. Bottom line.. I need to commison if I decide to go to afrotc.

2. What would be the order of events. Right now it looks like I'll be entering as a 2 year or 2.5 year student. From my research it looks like ft is the summer prior to junior year so how would that work out for me?
Have you heard of an prior e with a good gpa getting an EA as soon as he enters rotc?

3. Any general advice for me. Things to I should do while in the detachment. And any questions I should ask when I give this detachment a call.

Sorry I cannot be of much help, but is the Air Force Academy not an option? The Academy is as close to a guarantee to AD as you will get. Is it the 4 year vs 2 the deal breaker?
 
1. Prior Es typically will commission. Their prior life experience as an E is seen as an asset, not only in ROTC, but also later on in their career AFSC
~ DS is a pilot. The top grad in his UPT class was a prior E. He got an F22. The top heavy track grad was a prior E.

Have you looked into GI bennies?

2. Contact the det. you plan to attend ASAP. Traditionally you need to be a POC for at least 18 months prior to commissioning. For you that means if you enter fall 2016 as a 250, go to SFT summer 2017, than from what I know, your earliest commission date would be Dec. 2018.

Again, if you are not a screw up, it should work to your advantage. Timing is going to be an impact when it comes to commissioning via AFROTC.

3. Advice:
~ You are an asset because you know the E world, but remember you will now become an O and with that the perspective changes. IOWs, when a cadet it is great to say from a prior E's perspective this is how they see it, but at the same time be open to why as an O this is how it will happen. You should not keep droning into their cranium that you were prior E. They will get it as soon as you step foot on the campus that you were prior E. You need to mentally see a bigger picture from a leadership perspective.
~~ The...well, when I was enlisted at XYZ base this is what we did, can come across in the wrong way.

~ Ask them flat out, should I go career, finish up my degree over the next 2-3 years and apply OCS? Explain to them that there is a financial aspect into your equation. Going ROTC full time means giving up the job.

~ What is your AFSC desire? What is your major? Have you taken the AfOQT, if so what was your score? What is your PFT score? With those questions in mind, ask them your chances knowing your own stats.

You state you are going PT Guard, have you talked to your unit CC? Saying you should have some awesome bullets on your EPR is different than them submitting it. Have you thought about staying PT Guard, finishing your degree and working and than trying to go FT?

2. He is intending on separating either way in July.
~ This means LEAD may not be on the table because he is not re-enlisting ADAF, but instead going Guard.
3. AFROTC is like NROTC, not AROTC..if they are selected for SFT than they will go ADAF. There is no Guard, Reserve option. Hence, since shaggy only needs to do 2-2.5 years he will commission via AFROTC faster.

Hey thanks a bunch for your reply 5day and yup the academy is off the table. I really don't want to be out the force for 4 years especially when I'm so close to getting my degree. I also have to factor in the time it would take to get the package together and with me getting out on July it really doesn't leave much time for that.

Thank for the very thorough reply Pima. I have looked into by benefits and coupled with my monthly guard pay will be enough for me to live on. Not like im living now but I'll get by even if I don't pick up another job.

In terms of afsc I would like to be an intel officer (14N) currently an 1N0 (the enlisted version of the job) and we do the same exact thing. hopefully it wouldn't be too hard to get back in I already have my clearance and the need for intel specialist are growing. I have thought about going full time and then go the ots route but ROTC is allocated more slots than ots that's why im going this route.

Thanks for all the help Pima I'm going to do exactly what you said and just be straight up with the detachment. Fortunately I currently don't have any bills besides insurance payments and no dependents but still even without those it's still a big risk not being able to come back in. But I think Imma give it a try work my ass off and hope for the best. Oh and forgot to mention I'll be either a pol sci, criminal justice or international studies major. Non tech I know :( but engineering would kill me
