One year ago there was no way I could have understood the following paragraph. Now it just flows.


DS wanted to go to an SA So he filled out 3 aps, and got the LOR’s. Then he talked to the BGO and the ALO, got poked and prodded at DoDMERB and started training for his CFA. Retook SAT and ACT, applied with VP, MOC and MOS for nom. Got a letter that he was 3Q, got an LOE but not an LOA from USMA . Looked into ROTC as a plan B. Waited, then got a phone call from MOC with apt. to USAFA . Waited a bit more and got an LOA on USNA portal which soon changed into an offer of apt. Then two days later got a BFE in the mail from USMA. Can’t wait for I-Day or R-Day or whatever day they call it at USAFA.
 
It's called I-Day at USAFA. :) Congrats to your DS on his appt. Nice application of SAF'ish as well. :thumb: Now he just needs to go :muscles2: and :zip: while avoiding :bump8ls: and :stretcher:. If he is able to do this, then it will be :welcome1: and :rockon: in less than a year. Of course, once he steps off the bus, that will become :director: and :argue1:. After BCT is over, Academy life changes from :bang:/:help: to a simple matter of :sleep:, :eek2:, :sofa:, and :blowup: for the next 7 months, with occasional fun moments of :band:, :popcorn1:, and :laugh:. But just think--in four years he could well be :tomcat:! Good luck to you and him. :yllol:

Welcome to the world of the Military. It is even worse in the defense contracting/programs world, there are more acronyms in a paragraph than words! Listening to a couple of old timer is similar to trying to follow a conversation in Chinese.

Man, since my DD started showing an interest in flying, I've been reading her posts meticulously and have to constantly google things. I'd just gotten used to SA speak and now I need to learn pilot speak. Life is hard for a mother who wants to know what her DD is saying.

I do take consolation in the fact that when she was home, she had friends over for breakfast. She said something with so many acronyms that I could see that her friends, boyfriend included, were totally lost. When I asked, if they had understood her, there were blank faces around the table. I, on the other hand, understood everything she said.
 
We once made a list of acronyms and put our own definitions to them. Well, let's just say, it was a long snowy weekend and there was considerable grog involved.

Not for the eyes of minors, I can safely say. :)
 
Oh the things you will learn! My DH is a retired AF test pilot and when we first met I was the blank faced newbie. After a while, I began to try and guess the acronym meaning and the conversation would proceed without me, and I would blurt "Joint Defense Air Munition?" be met with blank stares in return, then "no, no Joint Direct Attack Munition". Depending on the location of the conversation (Club, home, party) I would come up with some doozys! But I learned! Now DS is going down the pilot path and I'm brushing up on my acronym aptitude!

No, no, no, you need to make a real list for the poor moms out there who need to learn the difference between an F-35 and a C-130 after they finally learned about the difference between a LOE and a LOA.
