I see a pattern in the past 2 weeks of a flurry of new appointments posted here from Thu-Sat. I assume the next 3 days are do or die for those candidates still waiting to be informed of their destiny. Its really difficult to sit here and wait for a process several years in the making of which we have absolutely no control over the outcome at this point. Are these admissions people cognizant of the torture they put us through?

I am aware of all of the caveats: (1) there's always a chance for a last minute appointment (2) it is a great honor to have gotten this far, and (3) try again next year.

All of that is fine and dandy, but at some point Plan B needs to be taken seriously. My son was notified of an AFROTC scholarship last week and there was some interesting language in that packet. It sounds as if they expect him to graduate from the university he signs up for. How does that directive affect the application process for the AFA class of 2014?

not sure what you are asking -
if you are asking about the implications of accepting the AF scholarship and reapplying and being accepted to the AFA Class of 2014 - there aren't any.

An appointment to a service academy will null and void any ROTC scholarship.

Oops, I missed that somehow. Do you happen to have the letter in front of you now? Can you give me a paragraph#

Thanks

So, are you saying that these next three days are it?

My sons had AF/N/Army ROTC scholarships to several schools and if/when the appointment to a SA is offered and accepted, there is a box on the ROTC acceptance forms which you would check off as "Accepting Appointment to AFA."

There is something to look at closely though - it is the acceptance date, which I think is May 1st (might be wrong - I forget).

Does that answer your question?

Page 3 of the "Checklist of Required Actions" (for 4-year type 2 scholarship) says
"Transferring to another college or university, after school starts, if approved HQ AFROTC, will result in the scholarship being capped at the tuition/fee cost of the lower cost school. It is not capped at the scholarship type ceiling."

I would assume that HQ would approve a "transfer" to the Air Force Academy since it would be lower cost.. well actually.. no cost to them at all! You're still going to be an officer, its less money they spend, and lets face it- the academy is better academically and overall a better school. I'd bet the value of the scholarship that they'll let someone transfer if and when they do.

Packerfan, I agree. It is logical that ROTC would not have a problem with a transfer to the AFA. My wife really freaked out over some of the statements in the packet that made it sound like he was locked in with the initial school.

I didn't really like it either.. but in the long run.. they are paying for a free education (at some pretty good universities if i may add). I'd rather have a strict scholarship than pay for school! I also think that they are saying this to cover their butts.. but would probably let the reasonable stuff slide...
