USAFA Prep School

Congratulations on accepting PS! I would suggest reading AFAPS on the Prep School forum. Also use the search function and read the "stickies"... No way to really prepare yourself. All SA's PS prepares you to help you do better academically and military as a doolie, plebe or cadet.

I received an offer to go to the prep school for the academy. I am honored and of course I took the offer. Does anybody know what the prep school is like? Do everybody take the same courses? What should I except and how should I prepare myself? Thanks!
Congratulations!!!

Congratulations!

For the Prep, you will report in the middle of July and there's 3 week basic. After that, you will start classes.

The first 10 days you take classes that are mostly for evaluation. The classes for the first quarter are pre-flight, Algebra, Trig and Chem. The second quarter is Eng, Algebra, Trig and Chem. There are two levels of classes for math and Eng, regular and honor. The third quarter starts after Christmas and this is when things change a little. You could keep the same four classes. 20 students are picked for Calc 141 at the academy, and in that case they drop one of the math classes (I believe Algebra). 40 students are picked for Physics (you drop the other math class). Some people are picked for both Calc and Physics, so their schedule is Calc, English, Physics and Chem. That's what my daughter is currently taking.

You will be told all of this at a briefing. They are really good at communicating with the Preppies so that you know what to expect before it happens. You won't be surprised with anything.

In terms of privileges, there are phases. At each phase, you gt more privileges. Right now, they are waiting to see when they will be allowed civvies. You can also earn overnight passes through school work, positions, military ranking, etc.

If you have specific questions, feel free to PM.

Congratulations on your acceptance to the Prep School. My daughter graduated from there in 2013 and is currently a C2C at USAFA. She thoroughly enjoyed being at the "P". Gave her a great review and strong foundation of math, chemistry, and English along with the military education. Your year at the Prep School will also count toward your retirement if you stay in for the long haul. You may already know, but you'll have to reapply for USAFA and your nomination. Do your best, keep your "nose clean", and you should be fine. Congrats!

Prepsters often make the best cadets at USAFA!

Congratulations !

Sorry, not answering any of the questions as i do not know... But I was curious as to what your test scores, academics, and extracurriculars were like? thanks!

Congratulations! Our son is at the Prep School. He was nervous going as he didn't know what to expect either. I think that was one of the hardest things. As stated above, you will have 3 weeks of Basic Military Training. Start running and doing push ups, sit ups and pull ups. The sole purpose of the prep school is to prepare you for the Academy aka The Hill. They want you to succeed. Good luck. Enjoy the rest of your senior year!

A kid I coached for years went there 2 years ago, this past spring he went into the regular academy. He loved it, it seems to have prepared him well for academy life.
