hello all. i want to apply to SLE, but my parents do not want me to attend/apply to west point. any advice on what i should do? it is my dream to serve in the military, no matter what branch. i really want to attend a service academy. also, if i apply to sle how long does it take to get an acceptance/denial?

Have your parents expressed why they are reluctant in allowing you to go to West Point?

my parents are apprehensive about the army. my mom said she knew someone who "went crazy" there. they are very protective, and i appreciate that, but they are somewhat preventing me from doing what i want with my future. they will not allow me to apply to afa either :(

To answer your first question how long it takes to get an acceptance/denial letter, that would all depend. If you've applied early chances are you either receive a letter of acceptance really early (shows that you are a strong candidate) or you may have to wait until March or April to hear back (generally reveals you were not as competitive as everyone else). f you applied a little late, you better be the best because by then there are very few slots available and they want to reserve them for the best. Quite simply, two candidates with the same everything (location scores, etc) may have different acceptance/denials based on the time frame in which they applied.
In my scenario I first received my letter of rejection in March and then after countless emails and hassling they finally accepted me about 3 weeks before the start of SLE. Then again I didn't have the highest past scores and by the time i sent in my SAT scores it was already in february in which most slots had already been taken. My advice if you haven't started your application yet: complete it now!!!

It is still early for you to get too distraught over this. You need to make a case that you are growing up and plan to live your own life by serving your country. None of us on this forum can truly understand the perspective or historical context of the values and relationship you share with your parents, but ultimately it is your life that is being affected.

Here is a recent thread from another candidate who is in a similar situation and you may find the comments of value:

Additionally, all of my ALO/FFR/BGO have always made clear that they are available to talk to parents and family about what an SA is, what it isn't, and what to expect. My family has been 110% behind me with this, but the officers were available. Potentially see if you can get a FFR/ALO to talk to your parents? They also have contact with current/past cadets who can further allay your parents' fears.
