Hello,
my NROTC portal status has been updated to :

We're sorry, we were unable to offer you a scholarship. A letter will be sent out explaining your other options.

I thought that there were still boards happening until march - april time? NROTC is not my first choice, but I still would have liked it for a backup

Does this mean I was not selected?

In short, yes you were not selected and they have at this point decided that you would not be selected even if they reboard you for every board util the last one. Thus, the we're sorry, but letter.

Don't despair. You can still enroll as a college programmer (basically, as a "walk-on") and compete for a 3-yr scholarship awarded from within your NROTC unit.

Plan C is being put in place including working on qualifying for 3 year scholarship. I guess it's better to know early than wait

If you don't have enough college credits to bump you up a class through either AP courses or concurrent enrollment going into your first year of school -- i.e. you don't start with sophomore standing -- you can still reapply for the 4 year NROTC scholarship.

If that's the case, your plan can become:
B1 -- reapply for 4 year "external" scholarship
B2 -- while waiting on that result, enroll as college programmer
B3 -- do well enough to be considered for 3 year sideload initiated by your NROTC unit.

As a college programmer do you still get to go on any summer cruises in the summer?

I would recommend reading up on each college's college programmer requirements. If they are in good standing I believe so.

Sorry for the news. I am thoroughly convinced all possibilities for military scholarships and service academies may have gone to a differently level of competition. No decision yet..for plan B....holding breath. What part of the country are you in? When were you actually notified and when were you first boarded?

DS only applied to schools with nrotc so he fully intends to "walk on". He has been accepted at 2 of the 5 - waiting to hear from the other 3. He will be in contact with the units at each to find out the details. One door closes - another opens - we are in MA

College program mids are not authorized to go on summer cruises.

Midshipmen on cruises get paid. Getting paid implies a contract with the Navy. Since CP Mids are not contracted, they won't get paid. They also wouldn't go through the security clearance checks, etc.

Basically, scholarship mids are under an enlistment contract.
