DS received a letter today that he met selection criteria, but is on hold and wait listed for california and national lists. He has a nomination, cfa, and dodmerb so we are crossing our fingers but fear we are in for a long wait....:)

I am guessing that they don't state the position on the wait list any more. . .

Hang on both your states are really competitive. Slots open up from the national pool when states do not use their full allotment.

Ca-45 here my portal changed to hold I fear that I may be put on the nwl for this year. I was put on hold last year till mid-may before I got my letter. Considering California is a competitive state I may have to wait for a nwl slot to open to get an appt.

Honestly, there's no reason to waste a year (or more) trying to get into Kings Point. Don't get me wrong, great school with some of the best friends I've ever had. But, if your end goal is to go AD, KP likely isn't your best choice. Although I know several seniors who have accepted positions as officers in the Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, etc they are the minority. This is a glorified maritime academy. Cal Maritime will get you a license that's of equivalent value to the one which KP will get you. It really doesn't matter which school your 3rd Mate's license was earned through or if you went up the hawespipe and did not attend a maritime academy at all. If you are interested in Active Duty service, choose a ROTC program. Kings Point's mission (no matter what the recruitment/admissions will tell you) is not to commission (AD) officers.

Don't make the mistake of being interested in KP just because 'it's a service academy'. Many of my classmates made that mistake and some left, wasting a lot of time realizing that this is the way it is.
