I recently got wait listed for the summer seminar. Will this make it harder to get in because they will pick the kids who got accepted to the seminar first?

I'm curious if everyone gets the same "wait list" email or if it's limited to a certain number of competitive candidates?

My DD received an offer to attend. Her app is still pending at USMA and I can't find anything at USNA.

Son received an offer to attend. Still awaiting decision from USNA.

Offer states he has until 2/27 to accept/decline.

Not getting accepted to Summer Seminar does not negatively impact your chances of getting an appointment. If you look at the stats, a lot of kids who don't go to Summer Seminar later get appointments.

DD was accepted as well. We will be seeing you at CVW in March. What session did your DD select for the Summer Seminar?

I don't know. I did not know she picked a date that she hoped to attend. I'll have to ask my DW

Haha, I was wait-listed as well. I get the feeling that is their way of saying, "Nice try, but not interested." Did anyone actually receive something saying "We're sorry but you didn't make it," or is that just what wait-listed means?

I just asked and DD and she said selected that she could attend sessions 2 or 3 at USNA. She has not heard anything back from USNA. It is my understanding that there isn't a USNA candidate portal (like USAFA and USMA) until you are selected for NASS. IS that correct?

Correct, no USNA portal. Just like the STEM program, you will get an email notification.

I unfortunately was not selected. I received an email saying that they "unfortunately couldn't accommodate me." I am feeling slightly discouraged ; however, I do intend on pursuing an appointment to USAFA by completing my application for the academy.

Sorry, I didn't state it very well. DD was selected for USAFA Summer Seminar as well as the CVW for Naval. I was asking what AF Summer Seminar session she will be selecting. My DD will be there the first session June 12-17.

I was also not selected. The only thing I can think that disqualified me was that my vision is not better than 20/50, so I selected no in that part of the application. How much do you think this affected the outcome of my application, or if it did at all?

Please do not think that not getting accepted to attend summer seminar means that in some way you are not "worthy". Summer seminar's primary objective is to show off the academy typically to people applying from underrepresented areas. You may not have been selected simply because you come from a state where lots of people apply (PA, VA, MD, IL, CA, etc). Not getting accepted to SS in NO WAY affects your ability to get accepted to the academies. There are tons of threads about this and many of them have answers from way smarter people than me. So please don't feel like you are "less" because you did not get in. Keep working hard, visit on your own if that is possible, study hard, keep your nose clean, figure out plans B-F and best of luck!

At least for USNA, something like 2/3 of each entering class DID NOT attend Summer Seminar. As has been said before, SS/SLE are more along the lines of recruiting programs to get more competitive candidates to apply every year. The important thing is to not dwell on the decision for too long. I took my NASS rejection in stride, and put full effort into the actual USNA app.

You will never know. No need to think about it. Just get yourself ready for your real application. Keep trying.

If it's any help, last year I did not get into the summer seminar. I am now a 2020 Appointee!! There is always hope :)

Runner32: my vision is worse than that and I got accepted to USAFA but I dont know if thats a factor for SS. Hope this helps ease some minds

DS got accepted as well. He will be attending the second session. His sister will hopefully be at the academy that session too so she can pick him up and drop him off etc. Glad she will be getting her car this summer.
He is also attending USMA the first session. Still waiting to hear on USNA, heard no decisions until April, and Boys State.
Congrats to all accepted and fwiw my C3C did not attend SS.
