This waiting is killing me

The kid has plan B, C and D in place, so if he gets the Dear Gonzo letter, I know he will be OK. But, He wants this REALLY bad. As his Dad, I want to see him accomplish his dream. He has been talking about this since 7th grade. Never wavered. Just want him to know one way or the other, but of course I have a result in mind I want to see. Thanks for letting me vent.
 
stay strong! The wait is rough, but it is easier if you just don't think about it. You will hear one way or another before April. As a second-time reapplicant, I can also say that even if it doesn't work out the first time, things will be okay.
 
I wonder if "the wait" is different for "regular kids?" ;) DS is our first born so we are new to this entire thing (with the exception of our own dated experiences.) I think that because of the work involved, the competition, and the small window of chance, perhaps the wait more difficult. Maybe not? We all want the best for our kids but I have begun standing down. What will be, will be! I used to pray that DS would receive an appointment (this has become a wonderful 10 minutes of meditation every day) but now, I pray only for the very best possible outcome. He is at the firing range with his Dad, brother, sister, and favorite aunt, enjoying life, and all that 17 has to offer. I am pleased by that. I feel blessed that while his road was rigorous and challenging, it was smooth. So many excellent candidates have encountered potholes that have derailed them. Everything that can be done is done. Hang tight! Good luck!

Ditto! Ours started this dream in 7th grade too! He has never wavered, in his younger years his friends teased him about, now he has their admiration and support. Solid B, C, D in place but praying for A! Here's hoping they both get there!

I don't think it's different, but I do think it depends on the kid. My firstborn is a freshman at a civilian college, she is an art major (never for a second considered military). She was a NERVOUS WRECK waiting to hear if she would be accepted into a state college that offered the art program she wanted.

A year later, my second kid is doing all it entails for USNA (she's also been determined to get there since the 7th grade!), and she is as calm as can be. She's got everything under control, only checks her portal if I ask if she's checked it, and is just going about her business cool as a cucumber. Zero stress - go figure!
 
Right there with you all! Right down to the 7th grade part! It's comforting to know that so many of us in different states in this great country are experiencing the exact same emotions. And how proud it makes me that there are SO many exceptional girls and guys that are committed to serve! My DS is my oldest. Ironically we had my 10th graders teacher/college counselor meeting today. He is an entirely different animal. A very good student but definitely no interest in a SA. He will be perfectly happy at any one of the many good state universities here in the South or a small liberal arts college. I couldn't help but think today how in the end how blessed we are to have kids that even HAVE the opportunity to have such good choices. As far as my DS, he is so happy that he has the NROTC 4yr at UNC( admitted) or hopefully Vanderbilt( waiting for April 1). He's just happy to know he'll be a midshipman and is not really agonizing over the wait like his parents are. I guess because the process was so long and so much was invested in it. At this point, I feel that it's totally in God's hands and if he doesn't get the appointment, that it was meant to be he go the civilian college route! So thankful for this forum... It's like free " therapy" Good luck to all who are waiting and congrats to those who are headed to I day:)
 
I know what you mean!!! We have seen him go from a happy go lucky forth grader to a determined forth grader when he found out his uncle was enlisted in the Navy. That was the start for the challenge to get into USNA all the way. DS determination and willingness to do what it takes outshines all of his peers. We are lucky to be part of this experience as I am sure you all feel the same. Excellent, solid Plan B through E in place with full NROTC and full scholarships to SMC, State Schools, Private School and even an Ivy. How can admissions pass up a DS like this! All traveling this route with us are in our prayers and pray for his will to be done in our lives and those of our DS's and DD's!

Yea. The wait is getting tougher. From past discussions, I think the number of "waiting" posts will start to increase dramatically. For me, consulting this forum helps relieve the stress (DD is applicant), so thanks to all of you who are in this together with us!
 
Waiting is so hard for all of us. My dd has wanted this since 6th grade. The process has been good for her though, and she has her plan B solidly in place, knowing that one way or another, this summer she is entering a program to become an officer in either the Army or Navy. But if the Naval Academy came through with even an offer of NAPS, she would jump ship on plan B and go for it with USNA.

If she is rejected by USNA, she will be reporting to MMI on June 22 to begin life as an Army ECP cadet.

Still hoping for USNA foundation or NAPS though. I believe her SAT scores will keep her from a direct appointment despite her Congressional Nom.
 
Worth the wait. When our Congressman called DS's school to make notification my wife who is an administrator at the school was with a student didn't recognize the number and sent him to voice mail. Glad he left a call back number. Now my DD is attending SLE this summer. Not ready to ride that train again, but here we go..worth the wait..was notified early March.
 
I agree the waiting is REALLY trying everyone's patience! That being the case, make sure that the back plans are ready to go. I was waffling between Harvard, UPENN and Yale as my top back up plan B. However, it is hard to let go of of something that you have been wanting and yearning for since you can remember, so yes I can relate. I have also starting to come to reality, the if being 3Q and have a nomination and still cant get THAT elusive BFE, then Ill take my drive, passion and talents elsewhere. Will I be crushed-yes! If one door closes, others will open. You have to not only believe in that, but also plan for that to happen.

Knowing that it is a numbers game, at this stage, realising that not every superstar will get an appointment, you should not feel down on yourself as you put forth your best effort. That you can stand own your, still pursue the dream of serving...there are still other options available to commission. In my case, if I get twe, Ill have a little bit more effort when facing USNA at the various regatta as Ill be rowing for 1 of the afore mention schools.
 
After reading a post on the "portal change" thread dated February 18th someone's DS received a call from admissions about an offer for foundation. During the call the admissions rep stated, "most of the class offers were getting filled this week." It's now two weeks later and DS portal still states pending review. This has me very concerned. Is it possible it hasn't even been looked at yet and admissions have sent out all offers? The wait is excruciating. Has anyone been told they are on a wait list yet or does that only occur after April 15?
