How Many Candidates Are On The NWL

Thank you, Sir! Our family is new to this entire process. It's been a positive process, however, the hurry up and wait isn't easy on the candidate or the family. It's been quite a journey to say the least, but I would encourage anyone wanting to serve their country to do it. We've learned a lot and have met some very great people along the way. As a family we've made some great memories as well on our visits. God Bless the USA and I pray all of your dreams come true. I'm sure praying for our DS as well. He would be a great asset to our military. Again, thank you!
 
The following are rough numbers but are in the ball park and can be found on other threads . . .

buff (one of the moderators) recently educated me that everyone that gets a nom and is considered "qualified academically and in physical aptitude" goes on the NWL.

West Point Class Profile: http://www.usma.edu/admissions/sitepages/class profiles.aspx puts that number around 2400. Of the 1200 that get appointed, roughly 500 (or more) are #1 off of the MOC slate/Principal Nom, and roughly an additional 200 (or more) are those that are not #1, but have an LOA/recruited athlete/prep or other special path to appointment status, leaving about 1700 folks on the NWL competing for the remaining 350-500 slots.

Again, these are rough numbers.

If you are good enough to get the principal nomination from your MOC you are probably good enough to win a competitive slate. The only difference is who picks number 1. Either way one candidate gets an appointment. The rest move on to compete in the national pool.
