Hello. Are there any Coloradans already appointed for usmma ? My app is still in file. I have cfa left that needs to be done.

Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Utah appointees please pm me so we can get you and your parents info on the Colorado Parents Association and our upcoming events.

Hold is sort of like a waitlist decision. USMMA appoints by state rather than district, so in a "Hold" scenario, USMMA is evaluating each applicant from a particular state and then ranking them accordingly. They are waiting to see where your DD falls and if it is within that threshold for your state, she will get an appointment. If not, she goes to the NWL for USMMA. If a state doesn't use all of its allocated appointments, they are redistributed to candidates on the NWL in order of merit.

Example (Hypothetical Numbers):

Candidate A is from AL and they have 4 appointments allocated to them. Candidate A ranks # 5 on the applicant list from AL. Therefore, Candidate A does not get in off of AL's slate, so they go to the NWL.

Candidate A is ranked #3 on the NWL and AK doesn't use 2 of its appointments and LA doesn't use 1 of its appointments. That means the two candidates ahead of Candidate A get in using AK's two vacant appointments and Candidate A gets in via LA's vacant appointment.

An applicant won't get a rejection letter until they are passed over within their state as well as on the NWL.

thank you. Is HOLD same as NWL or different. do you actually see that in the portal as NWL .
how about a prep offer does it says hold too? My daughter emailed admissions but no word from them yet.

I've seen multiple different definitions - including some purportedly from Admissions - on what "hold" means. The best I can guess is that it means, "you're not appointed, at least not yet, and may never be, but stay tuned".

Hold and NWL are two separate things technically. You can be on Hold and not on the NWL, but the opposite isn't true. NWL wouldn't be indicated as such on the portal. It will still say Hold. It will change once Admissions has made a decision on your package (Principal Appointment, NMMI/MMI Principal, Qualified Not Selected). As to when the decision will be made and reflected on the portal, nobody has the answer... except Admissions. Good on your DD for emailing Admissions and trying to seek out an answer. It also doesn't hurt to tell Admissions that your DD is interested in Prep School. It's a great deal and something to keep in mind when allocating Prep School slots. Lastly, what other schools is your DD looking at? State maritime academies, other service academies, engineering schools, Senior Military Colleges, etc. ?

I am on Hold still so I am just curious how many Coloradans got the appointment, and how many slate they needed for Colorado. Thanks

Being a colorado appointee, I'm aware of 6 of us total so far; more than the 4 slated for CO. However, I believe one girl pulled her appointment which would take it down to 5 total so far. Just because more than 4 received appointments from CO, doesn't mean you're screwed man, you're just thrown into the national pool to compete there. Where you're from is mostly irrelevant now to the admissions team.
