Hello. Who is going to tell the applicant if she he have been appointed? the MOC or the admissions office?
I already have nomination but I was just wondering if the MOC is going to call again if you will receive an appointment to either prep school or academy. Thank you.

My dd called admissions. You will first see it on your portal. Not sure after that, but we check the portal constantly.

Having just received my appointment, you'll see it on your online app about a week before the fedex envelope comes in if you do get it. You can call your admissions rep too because they know the ins and outs about your application.

Not sure there is one set way to be notified. DD received a letter stating Congratulations! and that if academic excellence is maintained in HS then you have an appointment and that it is being held for you.

Should there be something else coming? FedEx package? How soon after the letter? I'm so confused from all the remarks. The portal says nothing.

Your portal should read "App on file". That means you're still working on your application or just recently finished. It may go on to say "On hold". If you get the appointment, your online application will be the earliest way you find out unless you contact your admissions rep after their board here in the next week or two. That status will change about a week after the board if you do so get the appointment, and a fedex envelope will be in your mail 3-7 days later.

Regarding notification of an appointment, I dont know;

But can say my son got a letter in the mail indicating he was put on the national wait list. His portal was changed to "Hold" about a week ago, then the letter came in the mail yesterday.

Anyone have any insight into chances of success via the national wait list?

We also switched to HOLD last week and the form letter came in the mail today. DS emailed his counselor about what exactly being on HOLD meant and this was the response:

The USMMA is required (by law) to offer admission to applicants based on their ranked order-of-merit by State. As candidate files are evaluated, some (whose overall standing is VERY high) are offered admission early-on … the majority, however, are placed in a “hold” status. Those candidates then wait until all applications are evaluated and rank-ordered. In the beginning of April when we have all completed files reviewed and sequenced, we make offers to fill the State quotas and then move to the National Waiting list.

I think it is pretty much standard procedure and in the next few weeks they will start filling the State slots. For example, our State is allowed "4" per year. The top "4" will receive an appointment and the remaining will go on the NWL and be ranked nationally from that point. We are still hopeful!

So wait, they will be giving state spots in April ? I thought it be sooner like next week or two

Next week or so is when they start evaluating. They have quite a few to go through.
Makes sense, as March 1 was the app deadline. And if others were like my son, whose MOC waited until late January and whose school repeatedly messed up on its submissions, the Admissions Office may have a large pile of unread applications awaiting them.

If not appointed, will the portal reflect this before the TWE comes? If so, anyone know what that status change looks like? I'm guessing "thanks, but no thanks" is not the verbiage they would use.

I don't think so. I think you'll just get the envelope. That's how it was last year for me anyways.

FYI: Our DS portal status changed to "denied-low scores" before receiving anything in the mail, which he still has not received. Guessing the dreaded TWE will come this week since portal changed Friday.
Question: would the portal reflect if USMMA would recommend or sponsor him for prep school? or is he SOL at this point and should move on to plan B or plan C until next year?

Congressman called our DS. About a week later, the Admissions portal showed:

Application Status: Principal Fully Qualified

If your son met the minimum SAT qualifications, have him call or email admissions and express his interest in prep school. I think to be considered for prep school, you still have to meet the minimum qualifications. No worries. Many people self prep, either at the local community college or state U or at MMI or NMMI and do very well. It's not a loss but a gain because if you are not fully prepared for the rigors of KP you could end up losing a year anyway (or being disenrolled). The extra year of maturity and academics will serve him well and looks favorable by admissions. Work with your field rep to use the prep year to your best advantage.

Mman5247- if you are academically qualified and was put on hold "NWL" can one still email admissions that you express an interest in a prep school or no?
