National Waiting List Question

I just re-read a letter that was on my portal which said: "qualified applicants are placed on a National Waiting List until appointments are made. Most appointments will be tendered between 26 February and 1 May 2016."

Does that mean students on the National Waiting List will bear back starting May 1st???
Also, since I received this letter, am I on the National Waiting List? Is there any way to find out if I am?

This is a form letter that all qualified applicants have received (I think they have to be nom'ed too, not sure). You are in the running for an appointment until you find out otherwise. You could hear back any time.

Anyone know how to find out how far down you are on the NWL and if it's worth waiting or if I should forget about it?

Right now it's not a Waiting List as much as it is a National Pool (search for other threads explaining this in depth). So you are still in the running and yes it is worth waiting for.

Admissions never tells applicants where they are on list. You are still in the running until you get a TWE (or perhaps an appointment).

Or wait listed, and then the painful wait will continue.:)

Thank you for your prompt response...So what you're saying is that I could definitely hear back before May 1st, correct?

Not sure of the WP practice, but USNA does tell applicants if they are on the 'wait list'......not to be confused with the National Pool.

Yes you could. The wording of saying "National Waiting List" can be confusing, but you are still in the running for an appointment at any time from now.

That letter is telling you that you are 3Q'd and therefore placed on the NWL. All those that are 3Q'd are placed on the NWL.

Here is a thread that might help with understanding the NWL: http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/index.php?threads/the-dreaded-nwl.47090/

Regarding the notification of application status... does the portal get updated if rejected? or do they just send out the TWE? because where I'm from.. it usually takes 2-3 weeks for mail to arrive... :/

My DD got a TWE today that was dated March 7. No portal update yet.

How many students are selected from the national waiting list every year? I heard approx. 150...
