I recorded myself doing some push-ups and sit-ups to check my form and I'm trying to find a video of someone doing sit-ups and push-ups at West Point and them actually counting so that I can compare my push-ups and sit-ups to theirs. I saw this video of people taking the physical fitness test at West Point and to me it didn't look like some of them were going low enough on the push-ups or coming up high enough on the sit-ups. I'm curious if they actually were going low enough on the push ups and high enough on the sit ups and I'm just being too picky or if they actually needed to go lower on the push ups and higher on the sit ups. I'm also wondering what West Point does when people show up and they can't do proper push-ups and sit-ups. Do they just send them home?

Here's a link to the video:

The parts I am referring to are the girl in front at 0:38, the guy in front as well as the girl next to him at 0:58, and the guy at 1:47.

It's best to train with the standard being the hardest. You will learn throughout your career that everywhere you go they will be graded in difficulty differently. If you always train to the hardest standard you will be prepared. And just because you saw that person in the video do a push up doesn't mean its being counted either.

West Point push-ups and sit-ups are the same as army push-ups and sit ups. The grading really depends on the recorder though. It's good your focusing on form because some graders will grade too relaxed and others will go a bit over kill. Push-ups is the main one people don't know how to do correctly. Just make sure you break 90 degrees on the push-up and don't arch your back up or down too much. Focus on being neutral. There are plenty of videos on the APFT that can help, they just won't be from West Point.

Also, don't worry about being sent home. Especially for push-ups. They write number of pull-ups on the card you wear around for a while and I remember seeing a zero or one on a few, they all stuck through beast. Same with push-ups. Failing during beast means almost nothing but it can make your time worse and cause you to be ill prepared for the academic year. Trust me you will know proper form and will do fine.

Hmmmm...mike6 - kinda feel sorry for you that you have to make a comment like this on a forum that is here to provide assistance and answers for those on the pathway to a service academy and to their parents. And btw - I am RA veteran myself...would ask a moderator to delete the prior comment as it has no place on this forum...

Deleting my comment won't change reality, and it's one he will inevitably discover on his own.

However, I do not believe that my comment was offensive.
