So I cheered for a little bit in high school but my parents made me take a break this year because of grades and since I'm a junior, it's the most important year to get good grades. I stuck to my other varsity sports and the one I am team captain of.
However, I still LOVE to cheer, and am really interested in trying to cheer at the academy if I get in. I'm not super great, like I'm not good enough to cheer at a regular university with a really good cheer team. But, I've heard it's not as hard to cheer at the academy since there's less girls and what not. I've talked to several cheerleaders at USNA and know what it's all about there, but I don't know how different it is at air force.
If you guys know anyone who cheers there or what the requirements are, that would be greatly appreciated! And is a lot of tumbling required? I also see that only guys seem to stunt girls and girls don't base other girls(like at my school) so do you have to be a flyer and be able to one man with guys? I've never flown before and always based.
Anything you know would be great! Thanks!!

My DD is also interested in trying out for the cheer team. I don't know much about it, but I will share what I know. They tumble, stunt, dance and cheer. No flying experience is ok as long as DD is able to move her body in the air--they will be taught how to fly. Also, it's ok if DD is a little bigger than most flyers at other schools, the boys are a bit bigger as well :). I believe tryouts are after basic--try to get into touch with the cheer coach, she is amazing!

awesome! thanks:) Yeah I am definitely not as small as the flyers in high school, they're tiny since girls are the ones having to put them up in the air.
let me know if you hear anything else and I'll definitely try to get in touch with the coach! thanks again!

Don't wait until after basic-if it runs anything like the last few years, they'll do some practices during the intramural periods of BCT. If you get a hold of the coach before BCT, great, if not, just make sure you let your cadre know you're interested when they assign you to an intramural sport.
