My DD will be attending CVW this week. She will be arriving several hours before reporting time and will need to eat dinner. Should she take a later shuttle and eat at the airport or could she use the extra time to walk around USNA and find somewhere to eat?
She has received an appointment and this weekend will be a big factor in her final decision so the more she can do and see the better. Thoughts???

There is the Dry Dock on the Yard (Campus). + USNA Admissions usually has a pretty good snack layout at the CVW Check-in.

if I were her, I'd get there early and walk around out in town before reporting for CVW. There are plenty of places to eat and everything is a close walk to USNA.

There are lots of shops and plenty of great restaurants in downtown Annapolis. Iron Rooster is awesome! It is Easter weekend so lots people will be out and about. Does she know yet who she is staying with?

As others mentioned plenty of options either at Drydock on the Yard or to walk out in the town. Probably the hardest part is she will all her stuff with her. So either lug it on the yard and stop in Drydock for some food or have the shuttle drop her off out in town, eat and then lug it on the yard.

The Mids know if they are selected to host. They are given a time and place to "pick up their drags." Plebes should be in a pretty good mood. They just returned from leave, the semester is almost over along with Plebe Year, weather is better, they are getting excited for summer training, soon life will be better too, and the shock of returning off leave is gone now. Hopefully you get an engaging Plebe who helps you out. Remember this is your visit, so if your Plebe is disgruntled, make sure to talk to others too!

She does not know who she is staying with? Will she be notified before she arrives?
My daughter knew who she was staying with but her visit was a recruiting visit for cross country. So I am not sure if your daughter will find out ahead of time with candidate visits.

She won't find out ahead, but as Hoops said the Plebes know if they have that duty. Her plebe can get switched at the last minute anyway.

Grabbing a bite at Drydock (basement of Dalgren Hall) as Murf suggested is a great idea. I believe certain sports do practice inside Dalgren. There might be other activities going on that she might be interested to watch as well, and they practice on various fields. Does she have interest in a particular sport? How early will she be arriving?

Just make sure she had plenty of time to check in at Mitscher Auditorium. Ask questions and enjoy it all.

Congrats on your DD's appointment!

I suggest that DD contacts her admissions counselor/officer (?) at USNA and lets them know her situation. They may be able to setup a meeting with staff/faculty/coaches that can answer questions she may have.

Drydock is a good place to grab a meal. The vibe at USNA might be a bit low this weekend. Mids just came back from spring break and are getting ready for exams.

From fencing club webpage:

Unless preempted by special events in Dahlgren Hall or parades, team practices during the academic year will be held Monday through Thursday, 1600-1800, on the main floor of Dahlgren Hall.

Maybe it is something to watch while eating?
