I have been reading posts on here since last Fall but never formally introduced myself. I am a mom of twin boys who are graduating this year (in less than 3 months!). They are my only kids so I am going to have a very quiet house very soon. My one son is deciding between 2 schools, one huge and one tiny, both great schools. He was offered an AROTC scholarship, turned it down, as he wants to possibly go into medicine and decided to take a different path (killed me to mail that form back in). His brother has decided on his school (has been only interested in that ONE place since a little kid) and is now waiting on the 3rd Board AROTC. I pray daily he gets this as his school offered him exactly $0 in grants/aid. He plans on ROTC without scholarship, very committed to serving.

Welcome!

Keep the faith. My DS ended up with no scholarship and enrolled last Fall at his plan C school as an MS-I. In three months, he earned a AROTC scholarship and by January was given a 1/2 year extension.

Your DS sounds like a determined young man!

It can happen, my DS was down to plan D, enrolled as an MS-I had a 4 year scholarship that November. Most cadets that will report with your DS' MSI class will not be scholarship winners. Many paths to commission.

Good morning! I also have twin senior high school boys who are graduating in just 5 short short weeks :)
One is a "go getter" and is still in the holding pattern to hear from the USCGA for an appointment- We will know by Friday. He's been accepted into 5 different colleges-2 of which are major university's, but one in state with our GA HOPE Scholarship, and will probably go AF reserve.
His twin brother----local community college until he matures and reserves as well.

We also have a HF special needs daughter who is 23, so not quite "empty nesters".

We, too, will be empty nesters. Oldest DD went off to college several years ago and is now married and living a couple of hours away. Youngest DD (7 years younger) is heading off to USAFA the end of June. I think DD is more worried about us than we are about her -- she has asked several times, "So, what are you two going to do with yourselves after I'm gone?" My DH's somewhat sarcastic reply, "Oh, I'm sure we will find something to do with ourselves."

Isn't it interesting how twins can be so different? My one is such a go getter and the other one is too, just in a more subtle, quiet way (he is the one going to go into ROTC). I think he has been overshadowed by his much more overtly successful brother and this year has been a tough year for him. Especially when his brother was offered the scholarship, that he would kill for, and watched him turn it down. Good luck with the USCGA and his appointment. Sounds like he'll be great wherever he may end up! His brother will be too, just taking a different path to get there!

Funny, my kids keep asking me the same thing. "What will you do without your band mom friends?" I assure them I'll be just fine!

That makes me feel better! I just wish my DS would be a bit more open to his B school, where he'd probably have a better ROTC scholarship opportunity and already has a nice merit scholarship (big fish, small pond type of thing). He is so set on his A school, it may cost him a lot in many ways. But he can't be persuaded.

If he is as motivated as he sounds, even at the A school, he should have a good opportunity for an campus AD scholarship.
With good first semester trending grades and a decent APFT (288) my DS was pleased at how much attention he garnered from his ROO and PMS.

Amazing how our children do not believe we had any kind of life before them and cannot imagine we may be able to eke out a life after them.

Just found out that DS received the 3-year AROTC to both of his schools. My son is a super serious kid who doesn't smile much, he was grinning from ear to ear last night! He is going to call the school today and try to set up a time to meet them, as the person who interviewed him left the program. We literally were trying to figure out how to afford this school and how much in loans to take out just yesterday.
