My son got a traffic ticket last week for not coming to a complete stop at stop sign. Easily can & will get it reduced to non-moving violation (off driving record). Is he required to report this? He has Appointment.

Agree with MMA19kid, However, something your DS should be aware of... the military is not interested in what the reduced charge was but only in the original charge, so getting a more serious charge reduced in the future would not be any help. Tell him to keep his nose clean.

Thank you! Do you think the answer is the same for USNA? He hasn't gotten a rejection from there yet. I told him he needs to read through what he agreed to report to both. I know it said he had an ongoing duty to report X at each. And, yeah, I will be more like YELLING at him to keep his nose clean. He already reported a speeding violation on his apps. :/

It should be reported to USNA. They want to know about any and all violations of the law (including minor and major traffic violations). Would a missed stop sign cost an applicant an appointment? Probably not. There are people every year who get in with tickets. If tickets barred you for entry, a clean driving record would be an eligibility requirement.

Thanks. Do we need to report immediately or after guilty plea/fine paid? Right now it's just an allegation. I told my son he needs to carefully read what he agreed to report.

The instructions your DS will read will probably specify the types of violations that need to be reported. If it is solely an allegation at the moment, I would wait until there is an outcome and I would report both the charge and the outcome. Even if it was dismissed, say that you received a citation for X and after review, it was dismissed.

No need to report minor traffic issues. At the time that you submitted your application, it was correct, if you were truthful. At some point in the future, if accepted, a SA may ask you to update your information - for example when you apply for security clearance, however at this time you have nothing to report. Do not answer questions that you are not asked. When asked a question, answer it truthfully to the best of your ability.

But after an appointment is offered, a police check is required. Didn't we sign a form stating we would update any changes to medical, academic, and other issues after that submission? Wouldn't that mean a driving violation?

It was my understanding he agreed to ongoing reporting of any legal charges. But I've told him he needs to read exactly what he agreed to & comply with that & nothing more.
