Is a cadet's summer break between finals and summer training or between summer training and resumption of September classes and upon receiving your first billet ...do you spend your first five years in the same assignment or is it changed up at some point during that period of time? Thanks in advance...getting all sorts of questions from relatives about my ds's future!

Summer breaks are different each year. They usually get three weeks and sometimes those weeks are broken up. Classes resume in mid August.

As far as billets upon graduation they do not stay in the same place for five years. They may move 2-3 times in a five year period.

Between 1st and 2nd year, they typically get 3 weeks leave at the end of their summer training, so roughly the last week of July and first 2 weeks of August. Between 2nd and 3rd year, leave depends on which cadre track they get selected for. Some will have 3 consecutive weeks at different times over the summer and others may have one week here and two weeks there, like Grevar said. Their leave schedule for their last summer again depends on assignments, but most get 3 weeks before returning for CAP Week and their last academic year. They generally will know their summer schedule by Spring Break, although never forget that things can and do change.

This could have changed since I went through it...
  • Your first summer there (Swab Summer) you spend six weeks at CGA getting yelled at and one week on EAGLE kind of getting yelled at (but in a less intimidating way).
  • Between your Freshman and sophomore years (between 4/c and 3/c year) you typically spend five weeks on EAGLE and five weeks on an operational cutter (unless you're like me, did poorly in Calc II and spend some time at summer school and five weeks on a cutter). You'll take on an enlisted role this time.
  • Between your sophomore and junior years (between 3/c and 2/c year) you are the cadre, so you'll spend the summer training to be cadre, going to Mobile, AL, (I assume they still do that) to learn about aviation and fly in planes and helicopters (it was called CATP and nearly everyone came away wanting to be a pilot), simulator time, T-Boats training, etc etc etc…. but the most important time that summer is doing either swab summer as a cadre, AIM, or going on EAGLE as EAGLE cadre.
  • Between your junior and senior years (2/c and 1/c year) you typically go to a cutter for 10 weeks. You'll take on a junior officer role this time. It's a good summer to figure out what you want to do.

After graduation most grads go to a ship and have a two year billet. Some go to a sector or flight school. After that first tour the follow on tour is typically 2-4 years… some are shorter if they go to Bahrain.

LITS has it. That was DS lst summer. He went to E-City for CATP (my other son was stationed at CG Portsmouth VA and went down to visit/play softball with the officers). DS was also CGAS cadre. Most of them were CGAS before. They washed out a lot, and heard about it. Don't think because cadre are cadets that the swabs get off a little easy...

Thank you all for the information and so quickly too.
