AFROTC GPA Question

Hello all,

As far as GPA requirements for POC entry/retention, there's been mixed statements regarding it. For example on the AFROTC website, it says non-scholarship POC cadets (which my sister will be) must have a 2.0 GPA. (https://www.afrotc.com/program-requirements/academic). But she keeps hearing a 2.5 GPA requirement.

She's not concerned at all about her Cumulative GPA, but she's been told that she needs a 2.5 min. GPA for this semester/term to contract as a POC after this summer. She says her CGPA will be above a 2.0/2.5 no matter what. But she's just concerned that her GPA this semester will be just shy of 2.5. My question is, what happens as far as POC membership if she doesn't get a 2.5 GPA this semester? She's freaking out and I'm concerned for her as well.

Thanks in advance

Allegedly there are GPA waivers.
If she goes to FT this summer without a 2.5T or CGPA it will simply delay her contracting as a POC until her GPA hits the standards. Aka no $/stipend until contracting.

One must maintain above 2.5 each semester. If you fall below 2.5 in a semester, you must get a waiver. You can get two of theses waivers called conditional events. You must get above a 2.0 to go to field training. If you have above a 2.5 when your EA package is submitted the first semester of your sophomore year and you get an EA and then you fall below a 2.0 on your second semester of your sophomore year, you will lose that EA slot and possibly your scholarship as well.

Thanks for the reply and help!

Thanks for the reply, but there's no scholarship involved whatsoever. Her Cumulative GPA will be fine and will be way above a 2.0 and 2.5. The only concern is her GPA this semester, which may end up under a 2.5 (but still passing classes) and whether it'll effect her FT slot or POC membership.

Ok I went 3 years ago, & at that time, we had a cadet who was awarded an EA but was below the 2.5 min term GPA. He didn't attend FT, & was immediately dropped.

Last year, we had two cadets attend FT with below 2.5 terms, & instead of contracting with the rest of their 300 class, they had to wait until the following semester when they had >=2.5 term.

This year, from what I've read on the PSP selection threat, & from what I've heard through the grapevine, cadets are being awarded GPA waivers, IOWs she ought to be fine, as long as she didn't completely tank....but there's still several weeks left in most terms/semesters I believe? It's never too late. If she's that concerned, it would behoove her to reach out to her professor(s) with her concerns & explain why (i.e. I need to maintain at least a 2.5 this sem, & this class-geometry 101 or whatever, is pulling me down the most...are there any extra credit opportunities, projects I can do, or extended office hours I can attend tO better comprehend the material & pull my grade up?)

AFROTC 36-2011, latest version, attachment 12 is your friend. That will tell you everything.

I got a GPA waiver for PSP, got an EA, and now have to get my GPA back above 2.5 before I go to FT, which is no issue as I literally fell just below 2.5.

Honestly this year, so long as her cumulative doesn't drop below 2.5 even with the bad semester, she'll be fine.

@noketchup @Vretro Thank you both for your quick and helpful replies. I told her what you all said, and she said that she'll be "pleading her case" with her professors beginning Monday. Especially not to miss out on a great EA selection year like this.

I was in this boat. I had a crappy semester with below the 2.5 term GPA. I was allowed to attend FT and returned being told that I cannot contract until I get a 2.5 term GPA for this semester. AS300s who are in this category are in what's called "pursuing status", and remain so for their Fall AS300 year. Cadets who do not get that 2.5 or better during that semester are investigated for disenrollment and most likely dropped.

I ended up doing fine, but it was an unnecessary stress that any cadet can avoid if they, including myself, put school first when it matters most. If your sister doesn't get the 2.5 term GPA, it should not be the end of the world in terms of her Air Force hopes. A bad semester can happen, that's why the next semester can be a chance to redeem yourself as a pursuing status cadet. All I can say from experience is she should focus on getting the best possible scores on her finals and try to avoid pursuing status! Best of luck to her!
