Hey guys I have yet to hear back from the NROTC, and to be honest i'm very nervous as to what their decision will be. I was wondering if anyone was awarded, or have children who were awarded scholarships this year, and what their stats were. I just want to get a gauge on what to expect so if im rejected i would kind of have an idea ahead of time.

My son is still waiting to hear, too. It's getting late, but I've heard that there are two April dates that the board will meet. ??

Yeah, the first one is supposed to release around the 20th. The sheet given out said the second board released on May 7th, which is bad since colleges require a letter of intent by the 1st. I was told, though, that the Navy is aware of this and will release before then.

One of the earlier postings indicated that the actual decision release date for the last board will be May 1st.

Just to give you an idea from 2014-2015's Navy option 4-year National boards, the average unweighted GPA was a 3.81 and the average SAT (out of 1600) was a 1370. For the ACT folks, it was about a 31. However, there's much more to an aplication than just those numbers.

Just curious. Are those numbers just for Navy Options or are they NROTC applicants overall.

That's good to hear, I'm right at the averages. I've got some other good things going for me, factors I believe would set me apart, so hopefully it all works out

Those are for 4-year National Navy option recipients. It also excludes MSISR, ISR, ASR, and Nurse. I have the Marine option scholarship numbers from last year as well, but I don't have them memorized so I'll have to refer to them at the office tomorrow and then I can provide those for comparison. As you can imagine, there are some differences.

@NavyNOLA, I'm curious about Marine Option stats from last year. My DD will be applying for a scholarship during freshman year at an SMC. Just wondering, if you've got the time - thanks!

First of all, I want to wish @JakeReitz good luck. I know how hard it is to wait. Please keep in mind that "everyone" states that numbers aren't everything and I hope that is the case. That said, my daughter submitted all paperwork for NROTC at the end of the summer or beginning of September. Even though we were told that her file would be reviewed in October, she did not receive a decision until mid-November. Figure 8-10 weeks of waiting. I'm sure as the school year progresses the number of applicants that board have to review increases, therefore I wouldn't use our experience as anything but background information. As far as stats, all I can say is that she hit the 30 mark.. I can't remember what her final score was. But, I think a lot has to do with what type of service you are involved with as a student. If you served an active role in your school community or local community, played sports, kept yourself in shape, and did your best in school you have done EVERYTHING you can and you should be commended for that. Good luck to you... I hope you find out soon and it is the result that you want! :)

Hi hopefully I can shed some light for you!
I received my NROTC LREC Scholarship in Feb. 2016. I started the process in October and had all my paperwork turned in and processed by mid Jan.

My stats:
28 ACT
3.18 GPA unweighted (I go to a top 10 public highschool in NYS)
I've taken/taking 6 AP's
I'm team captain of my school's varsity crew team
I'm a chair for our local Model United Nations Conferences
I volunteered at my local hospital every summer of high school for 4 weeks, 4 hours per day.

I was selected for an ISR interview as well but I don't think I received the actual ISR...
A big part of the application process is the interview.

Hope that helps!

Below are the stats for the 4-Year Marine option fall National scholarship board held in November 2014. The spring 2015 board was held in March 2015, but I don't have those numbers handy at the moment. The Fall 2015/Spring 2016 numbers have not been made available yet. Keep in mind that the below numbers are the averages for students who were selected for Marine option scholarships, not all applicants. Also, I listed the male and female breakdown because that is the way in which the data is provided to us.

Male
SAT (out of 1600)- 1224
ACT- 28
GPA (Unweighted)- 3.81
PFT- 269

Female
SAT (out of 1600)- 1085
ACT- 24
GPA (Unweighted)- 3.73
PFT- 271

The board considered 151 applicants and selected 26 for scholarships, for a 17% selection rate. The spring board typically screens more applicants.

Thanks @NavyNOLA! One more question...only 26 scholarships? Is that a typical number? (Ok, two questions haha)

Well, the fall board is early- first week of November (in 2014). Applications are due annually on 31 January, and plenty of students wait until then. In order to make the fall board, you would have had to submit your application by no later than about early to mid October. So, the fall board is considering fewer applicants than the spring for sure.

And just to clarify, these were the board selection stats for Marine Corps District 6, not all of the 12 districts combined. Sorry for any confusion.
