Just heard that the Academy will begin notifying candidates this week if they are no longer being considered for an appointment.

Unfortunately I also learned that my DS will be one of the candidates that will be receiving the dreaded TWE. The good news is that he was awarded a AFROTC scholarship on Friday.

Good luck to everyone who is still waiting.

How did you find out your DS would be getting one before the actual portal update?

Thank you for the heads up. How did you find out about the upcoming release of TWE mailings. It's good your son received the good news though.

Don't let a TWE get you down. For me, it was the beginning of an extraordinary journey that included the excitement of getting a second chance.
The same day that I managed to run over a parking barrier in my mother's car (WITH HER in the car, by the way...) I received word that I had received the Falcon Foundation Scholarship. Imagine the quick turnaround in attitude in the haleym household on that one!
This happened to me, it's happened to others, it could happen to you. Even if you don't receive a scholarship opportunity, there are so many places that want to help you reach your dreams. This includes Marion Military Institute (shameless plug!) and Northwestern Prep as well as many others. Giving up was not in my nature, as I'm sure it's not in yours. If USAFA is your dream, try again with everything you've got. That's the best advice I have!
If any of you would like to discuss your other options, my inbox is always open and I'd love to talk with you about MMI and my experience there if you are interested. Keep your heads up and have a great day! I promise this isn't the end if you don't want it to be. :)

Does getting a TWE always mean you're totally out of consideration for the late appointments? Just wondering if the door is completely closed for that year, or just slightly ajar :)

I know of someone who had gotten a TWE so took his appointment at USNA but while there and settling in got the call for USAFA so left NA and joined AFA that was years ago.

If acceptance day is not until May 1st and TWE's out this week how are you totally out of the consideration? Appointees still have time to decline offers opening up space for others. Multiple threads have given examples of this.

It is a slim chance, but apparently happens.

Insider (who works in USAFA admissions) posted recently that it doesn't work that way for USAFA. Appointees who turn down their spots do not open up a spot for another person. Their historical data gives them a fairly accurate number of offers to make to get their final desired number. You and read the thread here: http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/index.php?threads/running-out-of-time.48258/

My DS received a TWE last year. He reapplied and was given a full appointment this February. We were told if he went to college and had good grades, went through the process again, that they look very favorably on the resiliency to get in. I can say they were correct! He couldn't be more excited:)

How does that work exactly? Will he then be a year behind his peers?

If you spend this year as a freshman at a public university then reapply next year AFA, I would assume you have to go in as a freshman, so what happens to your credits from that first year University?

Yes he would enter the Academy as a first year cadet. But, your DS not have a TWE envelope yet, right?? It's not over, until it's over......

Right, but from what I gather nobody has a TWE yet. I am still hoping and praying, but continue to gather information.

I am a teacher at a High School, so I would like to help promote the SA's at my school. I have learned SOOOO much through this process, and would like to give the option to others here. My school is not very knowledgable about SA's, ans I would like to change that. Thanks ALL for the information!!!

stkgator - Congratulations on your DS being awarded a AFROTC scholarship!

This is the same week that many TWEs went out last year. My DD is awaiting the end of the week with trepidation.

How did you find this out about your son?

Has anyone received TWE for the USAFA or do they release all TWE's at the end of the admissions cycle?
