Is there still hope for a "candidate"? Still no TWE

As long as you don't have a TWE, you still have hope. I know a USNA mid admitted 3 days before their plebe summer starts.
 
Yes, there's still hope. Since you titled this "Falcon Scholarships", I'll tell you my DD's friend received a Falcon Scholarship in late April.
 
FYI - from what I understand, and those with more knowledge of these things can correct me, the Falcon Scholarships funding comes out of the AOG. There's usually about 100 of them
 
DS received Falcon mid May (!) long after TWE first week or so in April. THAT was a long set of weeks...plan B was already rolling at that point. So NEVER give up hope...put plan B in place and get an early start to next year (Falcon or otherwise)... You gotta want it!!
 
Yes, some funds come from AOG, most will qualify for some scholarship money at their prep school, and the individual comes up with the balance. Still a great bargain anyway you look at it!!
 
So if your ACT is 30+ you would not be eligible for a falcon scholarship because your academics are "high enough" right?
 
Thanks, yes it is similar to getting prep school. It is only available to those who need to strengthen academics. (i.e. those with high academics would not qualify)

That's not accurate. You need to be academically qualified in order to get a Falcon scholarship, and plenty of people who got scholarships my year had relatively high grades and test scores. This can be contrasted with the USAFA prep school, which will accept people who are not qualified academically.

BlahKahuna is correct. My DD's friend was carrying a 4.0+ gpa. She had academic full rides from other universities.

The USAFA Office of Admissions then identifies potential recipients of the Falcon Foundation scholarship from a pool of direct entry applicants who are qualified, but not competitive for entering the next class at USAFA. Those applicants who are deemed qualified but not competitive are rank ordered and contacted for consideration of a Falcon Foundation Scholarship."

That's true, but a lot of the candidates offered a Falcon seem to be academically qualified. DD's friend was told she got the scholarship because USAFA didn't have enough room for all the great candidates.

From Insider: "Yes, receiving a non-select letter does not mean you are disqualified from being offered a Falcon Foundation scholarship. In fact, most of the candidates who will ultimately be offered FF scholarships received a non-select letter yesterday. It hasn't been determined when the offers will be made, however (April 20th is a soft target)."

So, there is still hope.
 
What is a direct entry applicant exactly? I know they are admitted from High School straight into the Academy, not from Prep. But are college kids considered direct applicants and are they eligible for Falcon Scholarships?

Qualified means that the applicant has met the minimum standards set by USAFA for acceptance into the Academy: Academically, Medically (DodMerb) and Physically (CFA). This is referred to as 3 Q'd or Triple Qualified. Being qualified gets you into consideration (with a nomination of course). Not everyone who is qualified with a nomination will get an appointment. Once you are considered a qualified candidate, then you must compete against all the other candidates. This is referred to as how competitive you are against the others. This is why everyone is always encouraged on this forum to take and retake the ACT/SAT and the CFA. Get your scores as high as possible. Don't just aim for qualification, try to make yourself as competitive as possible.
 
Question: If you are medically DQ'd and a waiver hadn't been requested does this mean you are out of the running for a falcon foundation scholarship? Thanks in advance!
