My daughter received a DQ for Air Force Academy. They have requested a waiver and we have submitted the required documentation (administrative review).

The following status is displayed: Pending Waiver Submission/Review
The followind codes are displayed:

Code Description
R250.40 Pending waiver review by USAFA
D224.81 Current or history of chondromalacia

Is she now waiting on the USAFA to make its determination? How will she be notified if the waiver is granted? Are DodMERB account and USAFA portal typically in sync or will one typically post before the other.

NJfather -- I feel for you. Been there. DS was DQ'd for a different reason. Unfortunately our news from USAFA for our waiver request was bad news -- "waiver denied." We got notified first by a password encrypted email from USAFA and the DoDMERB portal was updated later. Not sure how "good news" comes from USAFA.

We did eventually get a "waiver approved" from Army ROTC! That news came first via the DoDMERB portal. The signed medical waiver letter from the Army ROTC waiver authority came in the postal mail today!:)

If you've already submitted the records they requested, the next part is the hardest--the waiting. I'm not sure how long USAFA takes for waivers. They haven't made a decision on my son's waiver request yet. AFROTC waived him without requesting additional info. USNA waived him about 3 weeks after we submitted the info. USAFA and NROTC still show "pending...." like yours. We are o.k. with that because his first choice was USNA. Before he was waived, we checked the DoDMERB portal daily (o.k. several times daily). That is how we first heard the news. Hang in there.

We feel your pain. My DD was DQ for AROTC about a week ago. We still haven't received the letter in the mail....found out from DoDmerb website. I guess we just sit and wait....and wait....and wait some more!! I hope all works out for DD.

In November, DS was granted waiver by USAFA within 5 days. An encrypted email was sent and portal was updated,
"Your medical status has changed. Please open the attached letter for details. ***" His Medical Status was changed to " Qualified" on the portal.

I was disqualified medically for USMA because of asthma and a knee injury, I sent all the information and went to the appointments--the first asthma tests I did were wrong so I had to redo them...Now the dodmets website says case closed for all the appointments but there have been no updates since March 15 to the dodmerb.tricare website.
Does this mean anything?
How do they notify you if you recieved the waiver?
If you recieve a waiver will the academy automatically accept you?

I just found out I DID get the waiver!!! How long do you generally have to wait to hear from the academies after recieving a waiver?

Congratulations on the waiver! How did you find out you got the waiver?

Hard to tell when you might hear anything from admissions at this point. Late in the process, but still possible for good news -- but not necessarily a sure thing. While they only put forward folks they plan to offer an appointment, they can overestimate the number of slots they have available, or they can change their mind.

You have gotten over a huge hurdle -- celebrate that -- If you got an email from the SA Admissions telling you the waiver came through, then they obviously know. If you are going just off what you see on your DoDMERB portal, might not hurt to call your admissions POC to make sure they know your medical waiver came through and that your record file reflects that. Once that is verified, that is all you can do. The rest is in their hands as they try and compile the class to meet the SA needs.

Best wishes and good luck!

I found a digital copy of the letter from the USMA admissions office on my candidate portal, but the medical box for the portal still says waiting...

Check the portal tomorrow AM. If not updated, should be fine for you to call admissions and respectfully ask when your portal and file will be updated.

okay, thank you!

Does the waiver board meet on certain days? My DS still waiting and wondering if they are done for this week or if he still might hear something.

It was beyond disappointment and more of a shock for DS when he received the TWE. We were hoping for a BFE since he his med waiver was granted by USAFA way back in November.
