New Parents, THIS is what it's all about

Awesome moment this morning. Shortly after sending us a pic of snowflakes against the gray stone of the fort, son sent us a pic of him in his new India Whites -- my favorite uniform so far. Very dashing but a bit ironic on a snowy morning. Which of your cadet's/mid's uniforms is your favorite?
oh would you you consider sharing it? The pic that is

Dress Whites at USNA and Marine Blue at Graduation are my favorites. Robert Gates was the greatest speaker I ever heard. When he broke up I did also. Leaking Dad.

And at the other end of the spectrum from blue rims...

My DH wore this just once, Dinner Dress Blue, White Tie (and a white waistcoat!) to a very formal ball. This is just an Internet image, of course. He hated it (he said), but my oh my, I sure did like it. He wore his custom gold USNA 'xx class crest cufflinks. He regretted he had lost his officer's boat cloak years earlier, which was dark navy with a gold lining.

One of my favorite military dress uniforms ever!

Now THAT is elegant! I'd give a lot to see my kid in one of those in my lifetime...but I'm not counting on it. ( I say the same thing about the Cubs winning the World Series....but...but...but...could it be?)

Mids get issued mess dress. The white tie can be bought as an add on. In the fleet you will see all kinds of unauthorized now ties and cummerbunds for squadron and ship events. The white tie I have seen worn many times for weddings. If chokers can be worn, they are generally preferred to mess dress. Mids will wear mess dress a few times a year so ask them to snap a pic!

CAPT, in case you haven't heard, the Navy finally took the Boat Cloak and the Tiara off the list of optional items:

Yes, I had heard - I am sure they lurk in closets around the country. I never even saw a boat cloak except in photos, but I did see the tiara worn by a Navy nurse captain back when I was an ensign. She wore it Wonder Woman style! Not per regs, but formidable. :)

Just so we can breathe a sigh of relief and bid it farewell. The JO version had no scrambled eggs.
Good thing it was finally eliminated in the 21st c. Otherwise, in the interests of uniform equality, it would have been evaluated for wear by men...

And as an after thought on this....it came to me this evening out of the blue from none other than Oscar Wilde; " It doesn't matter how you feel...only how you look".

Amen brother!
