Can an NROTC Midshipman apply and (potentially) accept an appointment to USMA if he/she has a NROTC scholarship or are they limited to only applying for the Naval Academy?

Yes you can apply as long as you're not over 23. All of your credits will carry over and you will have to complete the 47 months of school. If your are awarded an appointment and a nomination you could test for classes that will move you to more difficult classes. Your NROTC scholarship will be forfeited.

You're on a great path why change.

Tug, did you mean "none of your credits will carry over..."?

Credits should carry over. If you have taken classes the same as the Plebe year, they will test out of classes into harder or more appropriate classes for that Cadet.

That is not the same as "carrying over." Previous college credits will not enable a student to start at WP as a sophomore/Yuk, for example; all new cadets start as Plebes regardless of age or previous college experience. With or without college courses, all new cadets have the ability to validate classes. Passing a previous high school or college calculus class, for example, does not guarantee a new cadet will validate WP's equivalent (you'd hope so, but not a guarantee if the student didn't sufficiently master the concepts in the previous class). So, no, there is no credit carry over, just the opportunity given to all new cadets to prove concept mastery on tests that may enable them to validate into higher-level courses.
