Are Midshipmen allowed to wear backpacks to class? At VMI we are not allowed to have anything on our shoulders in class uniforms.

Yes, backpacks are allowed. You should be issued one for your use, so no need to buy one.

But will we be wearing the backpack on our backs or holding it in our hand? I think that's the question he's asking here.

Working (usually worn to class) uniforms have collar insignia, not shoulderboards, so backpack straps don't cover the insignia.

Does anyone know what kind of north face backpack they issue at the naval academy? I saw some while touring there and I would like to purchase one for myself

They are issued (pay out of their pay) an all black North Face Surge in the past, and probably the same line this year. If you are going there you will get one just like everyone else - it is call an "uniform item". You should buy one with functions and size that suit your need today.

USNA stocks North Face stuff in bulk and it is much cheaper at USNA and tax free. Might be better to wait until Parent's Weekend and pick one up. Are they issued now?

Edit- even better, they are issued!

Yes, Hoops! $64.95, per budget book from last year.

LOL
My 2/c was telling me how he got fried last wk for wearing his back pack instead of carrying it.
He tossed the back pack over his shoulder to adjust his PRK sunglasses.
The Firstie he was walking with got fried for not telling him to take off the back pack.
....Just another day at Not-College.

They got restriction for that? Or did they get told to fix it? Also, backpacks have been around a few years, we had book bags and couldn't wear anything on our backs. In the fleet, you can't just throw a backpack on and go in uniform.

Every time I have been at USNA all Mids were wearing backpacks, that is why I am so confused. Not just 1 or 2 Mids, but all 4,000.
