Hello, just wanted to do a new thread, for those who will be going to plan B school, also doing AFROTC, reapplying next year..

Maybe you could all keep up with each other and how it's going?

I haven't gotten a TWE yet, but I'm pretty sure it's coming... I applied and got into NWP as a free agent, but I'll definitely reapply next year!

There are a whole lot of prepsters at USAFA, including my roommate. NWP sends a lot of cadets to USAFA. Keep working hard--it sounds like you will definitely have a shot next year even if you get turned down for 2020. :thumb:

I got QNS to West Point and Navy, and received a TWE to USAFA. I will be attending UNCC for chemistry. I do not have an ROTC scholarship, so I will be "walking on" to their AROTC unit. And next year I will apply for a 3yr scholarship, and also reapply for USNA, USMA, and USAFA.

My DS has not yet received a TWE yet but the plan B is to use his 3 year AFROTC scholarship at UCSC and attend AFROTC at a host school.

But I just found out that the AFROTC scholarship does not become effective until his sophomore year.

Is that just this particular AFROTC, because where my DD is going she missed the dead line for this fall but can apply in the spring. Her plan B is mostly covered with academic and other scholarships she has received.

I don't think so, I really haven't looked into it yet, my DS just told me about it a few hrs ago.

The Scholarship he received is the type 7 AFROTC which is a 4 year scholarship if the school has a AFROTC on campus, but since the school he will be attending does not have a AFROTC on campus, he will have to attend at a host school 30 min away and will have to convert the scholarship to a 3 year 18K which doesn't kick in until his sophomore year.

I posted this in the crickets forum as well:

To all the TWE's...I spoke with a friend of mine who's daughter goes to WP, she mentioned that only 33% of the cadets there came in right out of HS. I would think the same maybe said for most service academies. For those considering next steps, one year of college and then reapplying for 2021 sounds like a good idea. She mentioned that they loved to see the persistence and commitment to getting into the academy. So we're off to plan B and ROTC, told my DS he has until July to think about whether he wants to start this process all over again. (My gut says he's in) Am I ready for this process to start all over again...the jury is still out on that one!

Not sure about 33% stat. It's usually around 1/3 iof a SA class had 1 or more year of college or prep school. West Point didn't publish the data on their class profile but the SA tend to be very close in numbers when it comes to the majority of stats. For USNA Class of 2019 profile, 102 college or prep school, 59 Foundation, 219 NAPS. That is 360 of 1191. West Point's classes size I believe is slightly higher, but I highly doubt their incoming class is so different that only 1/3 are direct admits. I tend to believe that statis reversed. For those who reapply, go for it. Give your Plan Bs your 100% in everything you do from academics, friendships, ROTC, etc. Really evaluate during your first semester what you want in school, military, life. You will grow a ton over the next few months, enjoy the ride.
