I have read that when applying for a scholarship you will be asked for a list of majors that you would be interested in studying. Then the scholarship can be awarded for one of those majors. How does this work if you want a specific major. Is it required to list more than one major?

Not all ROTC programs care about major.
For which would you be applying?

Considering both Air Force and army. Planning to major in biomedical engineering.

Army does not care, although a STEM major does earn extra points when Order of Merit List is calculated.
Air Force does care, a lot.

Thanks. I guess my real question is do I have to put down more than one choice of major. For Air Force is biomedical an acceptable STEM major?

There's a list of AFROTC STEM majors and language majors here: https://www.afrotc.com/scholarships/schools
Biomedical is not listed as STEM per se, but it may qualify.... you would need to check with AFROTC directly. Or if there is an AFROTC school you have in mind with that major, give the cadre a call... they may know.

You know, I was beginning to write how it doesn't matter for the Army too.

But I think that mindset is slowly starting to change. I'm not an expert - the ROOs here would have a better idea than myself.

But in the Army's move to modernize/evolve more and more emphasis is starting to be placed on STEM.

But personally I don't think you should fret too much.

Put down what you think you want to do now, and if it changes - cross that bridge when you get there.

I guess to answer your question though - CC is just curious as to what you think you'd like to do. So just put down your top choice, and I guess some alternates.

Ie: for me, I think I put down something like: Aero, Mechanical, and Civil engineering - in that order. Like I said, don't fret over it. Just because you put down Major XYZ, doesn't mean they'll lock you into that major for the rest of your life.

It is quite likely your MOS will have nothing to do with your degree.

been reading for sometime and finally joined,,,,,my son picked a major (Biomedical )and is a second semester freshman, 4yr Army national winner and was denied a major change. What to do?? letting him handle it but obviously if he is miserable what options do we have?

If he was a line scholarship the PMS can approve one major change. You should be curious as to why the request for a change was declined. There are probably some nuances to the situation that are not being discussed.

The only ways I could see a major change denied is if the PMS is a "hardo" (if you know what I mean) or if the change of major would add semesters to the academic plan. I have never seen one of my Cadets be denied the first major change.

The only other case where a major change would be problematic is if the scholarship is a STEM scholarship.
