I am currently a junior in high school, I take 2 AP classes and 2 honors, I have a 4.3 gpa and have averaged a 4.0 since my freshman year, I have been elected onto my school's student government every year since the start of middle school, as a freshman I sang for the president with my honor choir, I have 7 varsity letters in 3 sports, I am very social and well liked, I am in the top 20% of my class, and have over 500 volunteer hours. I have a strong connection with my congressman, and will most likely secure a nomination, what are my chances of getting appointed? Thanks!

Too many known unknowns for anyone to answer - search the class appointment threads and the TWE threads and you will see your numbers don't guarantee inclusion in either group.

What information you provided will likely allow you to become a candidate when you complete the pre candidate questionnaire.

Keep pressing forward, but don't put all your eggs in the SA basket - have a Plan B, C, and D

^^ Agreed. And best to not make assumptions about the process.

....I have a strong connection with my congressman, and will most likely secure a nomination

Getting a NOM is NOT about who you know or being politically connected.

Frankly, no one on here can 'chance you' so you might as well read the hundreds of prior threads on this topic. Also check out the SA websites where they show the profile of those now attending.

I have just gone through the whole application process and somehow came out the other side with an appointment, so hopefully I can give you some of the information you're looking for. When I first started applying at this time last year, I was skeptical that I had a chance. The odds look really intimidating, and really the best thing you can do to beat them is to wholeheartedly pursue an appointment. I come from a small high school where we have far fewer AP classes than most, and that really worried me. However, your standardized scores are more important, as well as your unweighted GPA. As for the chance you have, it looks like you are fairly well rounded, but I couldn't say for sure where you stack up. My advice would be to take all the preparation for the SAT that is possible--and STUDY HARD. Look at the averages for the academy and try to meet them if you can, because that is one of the most important parts of your entire application (though not the only part for sure). Try to see how you do against all of their provided information, and that will give you a pretty good understanding of your shot. A lot of your scores (academic and physical) will depend on preparation and hard work this year though--the more you prepare and want it, the better chance you will have. Another thing--humility and service are also important in your interviews/essays.

Congrats, @Cap. J! Would you mind putting an entry in the appointment thread?

What questions do you have about ECAs/leadership positions? If you are trying to "gauge" where you might stand...you should play the lottery. On a side note, Cap. J received an appointment...so I am sure you might be able to figure out why he might not be posting for a while...though brawny might answer.

@Cap.J would you mind telling your ECA's, leadership positions, and Standardized test scores?

Cap.J is currently a MIDN 4/C with no internet or cell phone access and likely quite busy right now.
His SAT scores (working from memory here) were like 720 math 700 reading and 640 writing. He was one of the last to take the old SAT.
ECA were a bunch (14 varsity letters, Team Captain, Class President 3 out of 4 years of H.S. On state champion math team....)
