Does West Point evaluate the actual grades we receive? My school doesn't rank so I don't know if my transcripts will play a huge factor or not.

They will look at your grades, but that is primarily to see if you struggled (failed) in anything. Conversely if you have a low test score, they will look at the course and grade.

Otherwise, since your school doesn't rank, in its place they will use your national percentile from your SAT or ACT. For example, if your composite score puts you in the 99th percentile, your class rank is 1/100. Score a 28 and that gives you a 90th percentile, or 10/100.

How much value, if any, is placed on GPA?

Where exactly do you send your transcripts? To West Point in general? ATTN Admissions? Do any recent candidates know?

When you get online portal access, you select a person to be your school point of contact (usually an admissions counselor). That person will then upload or mail what is requested of them. I believe by mail they go to the Admissions building, care of your counselor, but I don't remember exactly.

845Something, Where did you get this info ? Is this ranking practice consistent with the other SAs (USNA, USAFA) ? Thanks.

I would like to know this as well. I have never heard of this.... When I went on my tour to USMA they said if your school doesn't rank they double the importance of the ACT/SAT, is this the same?

You do realize that 845Something is a former admissions officer, right?

I have a few other specific questions regarding the ACT and/or SAT as a substitute for class rank and other academic qualifications

1.Does USMA use the overall composite score to calculate class rank? (As opposed to separate subsections? )
2. The most recent ACT has been publicized in the Washington Post as having some scoring difficulties regarding the writing section. Other than retaking a relatively poor writing score relative to the composite, any advice? How is the writing score used?
3. When superscoring, can SAT and ACT be mixed with percentiles? ie; If math SAT is a higher percentile than math ACT and the opposite is true for English or writing?
4. Does USMA have any interest in AP or SAT subject examinations?
5. What is the impact of class difficulty in an unweighted, unranked transcripts with regards to AP and/or Honors classes.

Thanks to anyone who might know

DS is very interested in knowing the ruling on this.

I know it's a lot of granular information to ask for. Child will continue to retake tests until a perfect score is achieved unless i can calm her down a little! The writing on act was way out of line with the rest of the test. Interesting

I completely agree with you on the April 2016 ACT Writing test. DS scored a 36 on the English section but the Writing was nowhere near that. USNA admissions told DS not to worry about the low Writing score.

Good to know; son had same experience with writing section - 99th percentile in February, 50th in April.
