Our packing list specifies that we are to bring 12 pairs of white boxer0briefs and 8 white v-necks, and specifies what footwear we are allowed to bring. However it does not specify what socks we are expected to pack. Will we be issued all of the socks we are expected to wear during basic, or should I be prepared to bring sage green socks for boots, and black socks for athletics. Thank you

I am sure this will not be the last question about socks as it seems odd that you wouldn't bring socks. If I recall, the only items our DS brought that wasn't on the list were black compression shorts.

Rule of thumb -- bring what they tell you to bring. If its not on the list, it will be provided.

In addition to compression shorts, I would also suggest bringing anti-chafing ointment/Body Glide if you are susceptible to chafing. New ABU's can sometimes be kind of abrasive until they get broken in.

The packing checklist in the appointee packet seems to be extremely specific and only mentions a few things to pack, one of which was not anti-chafing ointment. Just wondering if you are allowed to bring other things like chafing ointment and compression shorts etc. even if they are not specified on the list. Thanks!

Not sure about things like "Glide" but our DS went through BCT last year and they allowed compression shorts. They needed to be white or black, and without large designs/prints on them. We selected black as the laundry is done in large batches and whites become non-white fairly quickly. Our DS did bring a journal and small scissors and both were taken away (given back after BCT) so stick with the list (except for compression shorts).......

I did, and I didn't have any problems. I think it depends on the nature of the items--you don't want to attract attention, but it is generally ok to have a couple of extra personal care/toiletry items if you need them. Just make sure to find out if you're not sure, because some items that you might expect are ok are considered contraband (like scissors, for example, as KTMdad mentioned).

For modesty sake - bring compression shorts.
Although, as I understand it, the PC shorts for 2019 were exceptionally long, so maybe not as much an issue now?

My DS brought bodyglide and moleskin and both were acceptable last year. Some of the things that were on the list were confiscated, though. Such as envelopes, stationary, & stamps. It will depend on the squadron and cadre....

As mentioned by Amy Boone, our DS's stationary/stamps were also confiscated, BUT he was issued/given/bought writing supplies/stamps so DS was able to write home. Just make sure they have addresses with them as so many people rely on their phones for mailing addresses and they will not have their phones.

My suggestion would be to bring more underwear than specified. Sometimes laundry gets lost or pairs get ruined. Also, were were issued compression shorts, but having a couple extra pairs would probably be helpful. I would suggest black ones with a 6" inseam.

We are trying to get the underwear off of the to do list and I need to ask are you getting the compression shorts in addition to the underwear or instead of the underwear? My DS would prefer the compression shorts. We just don't want him to show up with just compression shorts and have them confiscated leaving him with nothing.

Inwas told on the parents of 2020 FB page that you could take either or both. Our son is taking about 9 prs of compression shorts and 5 or six pairs of underwear

Just so everyone is aware, the cadre have other things to worry about than your underwear collection. Pack what is A) easily carried B) comfortable and practical C) not a forbidden item (underwear does not fall under this category =) ). Good luck!
