They usually start the day before or morning of greasing it. The area for the Plebes will be roped off as they will have water being sprayed on them to keep things cool. It ends up being a mud pit. Plebes will start in T Court and then rush the monument. There will be a roped off path for them to make the mad dash. Usually everyone will line that first. The Supt and their party sit on the Chapel steps as that is elevated. The Plebe who puts the cover on makes his way over there for the presentation of the Admiral Shoulder boards and singing of Blue & Gold. After that it's done. This event can take 2-4+ hours. Bring a chair, hat, sunscreen and water. Around the 3 hour mark the event actually sort of turns into... Hurry Up Plebes! As a Plebe this event was fun for about about an hour. It's hot, the water is freezing, your eyes burn, it's gross and you just want it over so you can go on Liberty and walk around the halls like a normal human. Honestly, I always sat back in a comfy chair and watched a little further back. It's a long event, you have time to wonder around for photos. Everyone will get closer as they get closer and closer to the top. Folks will line up in the morning. A lot of that is due to commissioning week traffic and just busy-ness on the yard.
