Has anyone received an email asking for an updated transcript because as of now "you are not academically fit" but will review an updated transcript? Just curious as if this has happen to anyone and what are the plans to pursue. The preliminary application was submitted back in January but grades were good then so it as DS a little worried. Of course his school will send an updated transcript showing 4 terms instead of one but didn't know if this is something that someone can tell us if they went through.

Thanks!

Yes, DS got that email today too. Back in January, he had only taken the PSAT (not super great scores), but very decent GPA, so I'm guessing that's the reason. He's taken both the SAT & ACT a couple times since then, so we will send those in along with the year-end grades. Funny, he was deemed "among a select group of students well qualified to attend USCGA AIM"! Just part of the journey, not reading too much into any of it at this point.

I wonder if your counselor sent in his transcript too soon? It's supposed to have his first 6 semesters which is Frosh THRU Junior Year. I had to make sure my DS counselor knew not to send until AFTER final grading.

Thank you. That is a good point. He did the preliminary one back in January so it really only had four semesters. He has had a great year so far hopefully for him thats good. We are in the Northeast so school is still in session until June 21st so he has no final grades yet. He is going to see his counselor today and ask her to send his official transcript after the semester ends.

Did he receive an email from USNA indicating he is officially a 2021 USNA candidate ?
This is what the email stated :

If you still desire to be designated as an official candidate, please submit a copy of your most recent academic transcripts as soon as possible.

Not sure what it means but seeing that he had a great year, It won't hurt to submit them.

I got the exact same email, at first I was upset and mad that I was "unfit" when they hadn't even given me a chance to show off who I am. However, I called my BGO immediately and he said, "think of it this way, the Academy is basically asking for more information about you, not disqualifying you."

How would they decide this though? Did you submit PSAT or SAT scores with your prelim application? Could it be that since no scores right now they want to ensure they have the grades time at indicate they'll test well?
Just curious as to why they are asking some to confirm candidacy via this method. but not others who were already declared candidates. The whole process is very interesting.

DS finally received official candidate email today. School's not out yet so we don't have the updated transcript they asked for, but apparently the May ACT test scores were enough. I think the reason he wasn't deemed a candidate after the NASS preliminary app was because he only had PSAT scores at that time, even though the GPA was very good. In hindsight, we waited too long to start taking ACT/SAT's, so my advice to younger kids would be to start way sooner than February of Junior year. Most kids will take it multiple times, but at least get that first one done early.

If transcript does not include the entire Junior year, it may not reflect prerequisite classes and a candidate might be considered "unfit" regardless of grades in other classes. A word of caution, don't try to read between lines of any correspondance --

Thank you for this. He is still in his junior year. We are in the northeast so school is still in session until June 21st. His counselor has said that she will close everything out that day and update his GPA and transcript and send it out right away. He also has SAT and ACT's to add. His blue and gold officer also said to wait until he has a full 6 semesters which will be Tuesday. So you think it's ok then to send everything then?

I have heard something about incorrect emails going out to applicants who are most definitely academically qualified enough to become candidates from the admissions office. If you feel this is you, do as they ask and send in the grades, and I wouldn't worry.
