CG Eagle Cruise

It does not happen often but is something that every cutter trains for regularly and is well prepared to respond to.
 
Word is it was an enlisted crew member tasked with painting the hull before arrival into Dublin. His harness failed and he fell approximately 15 feet into the water. Rescue was accomplished in approximately 11 minutes.

Ships are industrial environments and things happen. There would have been a safety watch keeping an eye on him, and well-practiced rescue maneuvers would have been executed. Man overboard drills and fire at sea drills are two of the most-practiced. I bet Roman galleys had them too, in some form.
 
Oscar, yes, the universal poor soul (dummy) who is perennially finding himself overboard.

11 minutes? That's pretty horrible. Although, to be fair, Eagle isn't a typical experience so maybe 11 minutes was OK for them. On my cutter that's about double what I'd like... I think.... or maybe I've totally forgotten what was an appropriate amount of time...

Actually, they say that it set a record on Eagle and that they were pretty proud of it, considering they were full of cadets who had just completed quals.

Yeah, if you look at the current grade sheets provided by the ATO (they changed from ATG about a year back) there are three separate time standards. One for a Williamson Turn, One for an Anderson Turn, and one for if you're the EAGLE. According to ATO EAGLE passes in anything under 12 minutes.
 
LOL, the other Coast Guard crews were probably really bummed they were told to stand down, nothing they would have liked more than to brag that they rescued a man overboard from a USCG ship!! They were probably racing for it, like a fireman hoping to deliver a baby!! The Eagle is like, hurry up here come the Irish!! Hahaha!!
