What are my chances at a NROTC scholarship?

Hello, I was posting to ask what my chances are at receiving a scholarship are.

Right now, I play a varsity sport, and may play two this next year. I am technically a captain, although unofficial, as seniors rotate through that position throughout the season. I also have 3 years a JV track program and 3 of a varsity lifting program. I am also about to be an eagle scout(paperwork is being filled out, my recruiter told me to just go ahead and put it on there as I basically have it). In addition, I have played 4 years of varsity orchestra.

Academically, I'm not as strong. I have about a 3.4 GPA, taking 1 AP class this year, 3 next year. My SAT was 1080(550 English, 530 math). My ACT math was 25, the English was beyond terrible.

Do I have a shot? I understand they look at the whole person, I am just afraid my academics are too poor to be competitive.

You have a shot and you will never know unless you apply. Picking a tier 1 college major will also help.

There are still opportunities to improve your SAT scores. You have all summer to study.

I plan to major in Computer Science, which is Tier II.

I also plan to take the SAT and ACT as many times as I can this summer

Don't just take it, prepare for. Look at the dates now, as registration for June tests I think are now closed. You are probably looking at early fall.

Since you have taken both tests, pick the one you are most comfortable with. And STUDY! I suggest taking a prep course. I am not at all affiliated with this company, but it has worked great for my kids and also their friends. It is affordable (comparatively) and easy to follow, and customized for you. For $400 bucks you get 4 online practice tests and they assess you to give you lessons each week (about 8, so plan on spending at least 4 hours a week in smaller chunks for at least 6-8 weeks for best results). The best think about it is they will set the lessons at your level instead of generic preset lessons like on many online programs. Since you cannot PM yet, here is the website. prepscholar.com

Don't just take the test, prepare for it! And I would definitely consider looking at multiple Services, if you are going to apply for Navy, why not Army too? It increases your chance of being successful.

The lowest SAT score I've seen for a Navy National recipient in the last two years was a 1270. Granted, I only see a subset, but that should give you an idea. The average SAT nationally last year was a 1369. With a 1080 right now, you effectively have no chance, as those scores are weighted very heavily in the application scoring process. Realistically, without getting up into at least the 1200s, you're going to have a tough time getting selected, regardless of what the rest of the application looks like. Definitely spend a lot of time prepping and then retake as often as feasible.

I should have specified, there was a new SAT added this year. The score is on a 1600 scale. on a 2400 scale, my score is roughly a 1490.

Understood. The scores I provided are out of 1600.

@NavyNOLA always provides accurate information and great advice. @King Twix don't take what he posted as discouragement, but take it as motivation. You already know that your SAT scores need to improve and like you have stated:
Ah. Well, time to get studying.
Yes it is.
