Does anyone know what the official notification process is for decision on waiver? My son is currently under waiver review by the USMC for a NROTC (Marine Option) scholarship. Will they update the DoDMERB website with that information, or will it come in the form of a letter or email? Thank you.

Thank you LizzieMac! Do you mind me asking how long your waiver review process took? I know they vary by branch and SA, but just trying to get some kind of gauge.

My son got an NROTC waiver and it honestly didn't take that long but this happened in October. I know now is crunch time for them. He wasDQ'ed on October 13, 2015 and got the waiver November 6, 2015. Of course when you are waiting it seems like forever. Good luck!

My son's waiver review was submitted end of April. He was told to expect it to takes months because of the quantity of reviews pending. His schoool's ROO told him not to worry about it. Even if it has not come through by the time school starts he will proceed as if it will be approved.

Thanks AJC. My son's waiver was submitted on 4/25 and we were told the same thing. Best of luck to your son!

My son submitted March 26 for AROTC, still waiting. The Roo at UNG also told us to proceed.

Our DS was DQd by DODMERB on 10 May. Received approved waiver from AFROTC on 13 May. Still waiting on AROTC and NROTC review decisions. I'm hearing AROTC may be until mid-July at the earliest. No idea how long NROTC will take. The challenge being they are at different schools so having to plan in parallel for all the schools (housing, class registration, etc) before he gets to a point where he has to make a final decision.

rehula--thanks for your reply. I hope you hear back from AROTC and NROTC soon. For the NROTC, is your son doing marine option or straight navy? My son is marine option and as with you, we have no idea how long their backlog is. We have been told to proceed as planned with his class registration, housing deposit, etc. We took it upon ourselves to send the DoDMERB all the medical documentation they could possibly want before they asked for it, so I'm hoping this helps speed up the process. That is unless they come back asking for more information. Good luck to you!

Our DS is regular Navy. Good luck to you all as well! We are hopeful all will work out.

Wondering if anyone has heard from the AROTC or NROTC this week on their waivers (on the DODMERB portal)?

No word yet, but we did notice that my DS NROTC (marine option), "exam reviewed" on June 3 and June 6 but no decision yet.

DS was DQed on May 23rd for a prior wrist surgery (scaphoid bone), AROTC approved his waiver today (June 27th) per the DODMERB portal.
Congratulations! I just don't understand how this works though. DS has been waiting since March 26th (when we turned in all the medical records we had) for an AROTC waiver, for headaches and only having one testicle. I don't get how your son's has been approved and he was dq'd two months after mine? I'm really happy for you, don't get me wrong, I just don't understand how the system for waiting our turn works.

I believe they have a team of doctors, each with their own specialties. Different physicians are reviewing different files and making the determinations, which is why the waivers don't happen in a set order based upon when the original DQ occurs.

I can sympathize with you all. My DS was disqualified on Aprl 25th for NROTC (marine option) for history of Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. He has been healthy and medication free for 8 years. After submitting supporting reports from specialist and PCP, we are still waiting. I was told by DoDMERB that his file is currently under review by a specialist with the Navy Surgeon General. We were also told that this could take several more weeks or even months. I have to say, this process is one of the most stressful things we have experienced, even more so than the entire scholarship process. Best of luck to all of you that are still waiting on your waivers!!
