My father, who graduated from USNA in '93, told me mids were allowed to have cars during their senior year. Is this true for USMMA as well? If so, who's allowed to have cars?

Anyone can "have" a car, the question is what do you do with it?

There is a parking lot for M/N just outside the gate, only seniors can get a parking pass. There are juniors and sophomores with cars but there isn't anywhere they have official permission to park. Some "rent" driveway space from locals.

In my day, having a car was rare, except for those that lived on the Island. . .and yeah, finding a place to park was always an issue. Back then, there was a "community" car that was available for those of us without wheels. It was a rusted out 73 Maverick 4 door that we affectionately called "The Embarrassing Stain", a very appropriate name. . . That said, public transportation is pretty good, and the LIRR station at Great Neck is not that long of a walk. I made it many times back then. Of course getting a roommate that lives on the Island is also a good idea.

There is a shuttle bus that runs to the train station that DS uses - $1-2 each trip. Forget which. Also, there are often seniors headed out and will drop people there. Team mates also often treat cars as community property. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Yes, bumming rides and hitchhiking (and the bus) are always options. . .
