STILL a canidate.....

From what I recall, you have posted earlier that your son received a Falcon Foundation offer. This was likely the offer he got in place of an appointment. I can't say that I've heard of any Falcons getting upgraded to appointee status, but perhaps it wouldn't hurt to call admissions and clarify.

I was informed that the Falcon Foundation is completely separate from the academy. It has nothing to do with his candidacy.

Not sure where you heard this, but it is mostly untrue. The Falcon Foundation is a part of the AOG and works at Doolittle Hall on USAFA grounds.
As far as candidacy goes, no, it does not affect his candidacy for the NEXT year (C/O 2021) as to whether or not he decides to accept the scholarship. However, a Falcon is no longer a candidate for the current class. It would be kind of silly to accept a 5 year plan (FF Scholarship) if you were still in the running for a direct appointment. Why they decided not to inform candidates of non-selection before offering the scholarship is beyond me, and is clearly the cause for a bit of confusion. This is why I recommend calling admissions and asking what's up- because from what I know, all Falcons in the past were informed of non-selection before receiving the scholarship.

Actually, it is still possible for someone who has accepted a Falcon Foundation scholarship to be offered a direct appointment for the current class. It is rare but does happen on occasion. The primary reason would be to back-fill a congressional vacancy when the "winner" of that vacancy declines his or her offer.

Haleym is correct that most Falcons have already received non-select letters before getting offered the Falcon scholarship. Some do not, however, because they may have been identified as potential Falcons before non-selects are sent. In those cases the Falcons will stay in candidate status (and that will not change).

Thanks for the clarification!

Our son has a Falcon Sch. and he is still listed as a candidate; never got the dreaded TWE! Also I would have a heart attack if he were offered an app. this late!!!!! He is in the process of reapp. to USAFA and getting prepared for MMI.
His mindset is great right now and it would be really hard to change gears again; think MMI is going to be an outstanding program. We visited last week and were impressed at such a hidden school of such importance. Lot of military tradition.

My DS was only 17 when he was at BCT and an extra year of academic prep and maturity would have benefitted him. So whenever I see people given the opportunity to go to prep school, I strongly urge them to see it as a real gift.

Absolutely. I'm sure that they told you this when you were there, but the chapel was used as a hospital in the Civil War. I am proud to have called it my home, and I hope your son enjoys his time there!!

Indeed, the prep schools are a golden ticket, and the appointment is yours to lose.

I am also a FF Scholar and will be attending Marion next year as well. A group of the Air Force SAP kids have been in contact and I would like to get your DS involved if you wish. I'm not sure if there is a way to PM on this site or not, but let me know.
