I'm probably just overreacting, but i day is only 18 days away and as I've been working out, my right shoulder has been hurting more and more. everytime i do a pushup it pops and my collarbone hurts really bad. I'm not sure what to do, I'm afraid to go to the doctor this close to the 30th. any suggestions? if it gets really bad in BCT, what will they do? send me home or would they help?

If it is popping and it hurts badly, I would advise that you see a doctor. Much better to get the medical advice and solution that you need rather than risk lifetime problems with an injury. It is no fun! Additionally, this might seem like common sense, but don't do the exercises that are hurting you. I hope everything works out! Good luck!

If your shoulder is hurting, you've probably over worked it. Pain is your body's way of telling you to take care of yourself. Rest it and ice for sure. Some advil will probably help as well (sounds like you have some inflammation). And if it isn't getting better after a couple of days, then definitely go to the doctor and get it checked out.

In answer to your 2nd question, they will send you to the clinic if your shoulder continues to hurt. They may ask you to rest it & then allow you to finish the courses at the end. Whether they send you home or not is done on a case by case basis (medical turn-back).

You may just need several days of rest, a good tape up, and lots of ice and ibuprofen.

I had a pair of very competitive (genius NOT) twins who felt the need to bonk their heads together every now and then and in May before they reported to BCT, one gave the other a mild concussion while cleaning their bedroom. Yes, it's true.

You can imagine the waves of emotion that passed over all of us, when we had to let USAFA know that Mr SmartiePants had a head booboo (not to make light of concussions in today's climate). Anyway, had to get medical clearances, etc, but he arrived at I-Day ready to go with paperwork in hand.

Get your shoulder looked at and REST IT.
