So, I want to do ROTC at Georgetown University or an Ivy League , and I think I have the stats for it, (31 Act, Top 10% of class, 31 Act, 3.82 GPA, Lots of AP class, Lots of varsity sports and leadership, fluency in English, Arabic, and Latin, I'm also Black, so URM status) but I'm worried about my essay. Would anyone care to read it? Also my Major would be International Relations and Economics with a minor in Arabic.

This topic has come up several times in the time I've lurked through this forum. I won't offer to read your essay, but the two bits of advice that come through time again are: have a trusted teacher (English?) read it. Make sure you somehow mention what makes you unique, and what you have to offer the Army. Try to avoid I want to serve/lead yada yada, that's pretty generic.

Same as nofodad, I won't read it either, however, ask the ROO at a school you are interested in or at the one year are interviewing at to read it. My daughter found that helpful. And I also have three other pieces of advice,
1. Be concise, you get very little space, just a few thousand characters.
2. Don't be overly creative, what I meanis, answer the question and tell your REAL story, even if it seems really simple. This was advice from an ROO, my daughter thought her reason for wanting to be an officer was too basic, but the advice she received was to own it, it will be more impactful if it is genuine (she simply talked to a family friend about ROTC and the Army in middle school who had served and has wanted to follow the same path ever since).
3. Don't over think or over use the English teacher part. After you have written it, made sure it is the right length, had an ROO give advice, have an English teacher or someone you trust that is competent at English give it a look over. Because your English expert isn't who you are bare going to for advice on content, simply to see grammar or flow mistakes you didn't catch on your own.

Looking at your stats I think you are probably worried about nothing!! Yes, let your English teacher review it but don't stress! Did you visit GT? Did you met the ROO? If not def. do both of those! GT is awesome!! If it's not out of your way try to interview there. Let them know how interested you are in their wonderful school!

Yeah, actually this past weekend I went interviewed with the ROO guy at Georgetown, and said he would be surprised if I didn't receive the scholarship, and that he'd choose me if he saw my name pop up on the list... but I don't like leaving things to chance lol.

After you submit your application, before any winners are selected, the ROO's can look at your application. They say yes to you also. They know what they are looking for and what their program needs. Keep in touch with your ROO, good communication goes a long way. First piece of advise her ROO told her.....Be smart....Stay out of trouble and away from people that you know are trouble. Turning in your application is just step one.....
