Has anybody seen a schedule of events/things to do at the Academy for I-Day? I am aware of the picnic and some of the other things to do, but I am wondering if there is a published schedule somewhere?

Also, I understand that there may be some events the next day that parents are invited to stay for/watch?

Can anybody provide info on these matters?

Thanks and good luck to all!!!

Keep checking the USNA Calendars and PS website. The detailed I-Day sked will eventually be there.

All the final details are being worked and will likely get signed off by Dant Friday COB or first thing Monday. Lots of coordination required around the Yard. Priors and NAPSters report early, so it will all come together soon. A good military saying: "It's written in jello right now." It will likely be similar to previous years' schedules.

Thanks very much for the assurance that information is coming!!!

Looks like it will be partly cloudy, low 80's. Classic sticky fun.

I don't recall there ever being any parent activities for the day AFTER I-day, although things can change from what was previously done. While the Yard is open to the public, it is generally not a good idea to be around during Plebe summer and call undo attention to your mid and/or be a distraction during whatever training is taking place.

I've read this many times and, while we are only a few hours away, we are going to have to fight our instincts to "drop in" on our Plebe!

^^^ Good idea. Lots of older threads on this topic but haven't seen it mentioned much this year. Plebes need to be 100% focused on their detailers and whatever it is they are doing, having well meaning friends/relatives waving or trying to get their attention would NOT be a good thing. This is not your typical college and PPW is the next time USNA encourages you to visit.

Yeah, don't do that. My family is only a few hours away as well, and I really appreciate that they stayed away. Some parents show up for the track smoker or the Bay Sox game or just to linger around the yard hoping to catch a glimpse. My advice is to stay away until PPW. They really, really don't need you there either distracting them or calling any undue attention to them.

Agree so much with staying away. I remember as a detailer I had a local kid and his parents brought McDonald's by Main Office a few times a week for him. We had to retrieve it and give it to him. Guess who sat in the middle of the hall and had 80 classmates watch him eat McDs? He was mortified, he begged his parents to stop. The officer of the day begged them to stop. They didn't. It honestly will freak your kid out to see you more than anything. They will get nervous and lose focus. Every year we see kids trying to sneak visits with their parents at chapel and the Baysox and it honestly makes them stick out to their classmates and not in a good way. Being close enough to visit is awesome and once the AC starts you will have Mids galore visiting your home the first year. Kids go to 13 weeks of boot camp without a visit and barely a few phone calls, they can make it 5 weeks before they get a visit. Good luck to everyone!

Oooooo. That makes me physically cringe, 27 years after my own plebe year. Ewwww. <shiver>

I-Day Freebies:

On Hospital Point, across the footbridge adjacent to Alumni Hall:
- free cold water (USAA)
- free Proud Parent of a Naval Academy Midshipman canvas totes (USAA)
- Shade Tent with chairs (USAA)
- Expo Tent with various vendors, USAA, NFCU, Parents Clubs from many states, NAAA ("N-Triple-A," the Athletic Assn), local hotels (hot tip: the cookies from the Doubletree), lots of free stuff.

Even if you didn't buy a ticket to the Alumni Assn lunch tent, you are welcome to grab free water, sit down in the Shade Tent, browse the Expo Tent.

I used to work for USAA, and confirmed with them today they were doing all the usual stuff.

Have a great I-Day!
