According to the Instructions to Appointees, females are allowed to bring a hair dryer.

From what DD has heard from other cadets and appointees, during BCT, they will barely have time to wash their hair, much less dry it.

So, the question to those who have "been there, done that", is it worth bringing a hair dryer for BCT, or should DD just wait and have us bring it on A-Day or Parents Weekend?

Don't bring the hair dryer - it will only take up space. After showering, usually you're just sent to bed. Using the hair dryer at that point will keep everyone up, let alone the fact that you're going to be far too tired to even consider taking the time to use it.

It is in your DD's best interest to wait until after basic, in my opinion.

Thank you. That is what I suspected.

I did not see where they were allowed hair dryers, but my DD will not be bringing hers. Agree with the other posters; no time and their hair is easier to put up if it is wet any way (provided your DD has long hair).

The hair dryer was mentioned in sort of an after-thought line; but she has no plans to take it for BCT.

And, yes, she has long hair, or sort of long, since she had about 6 inches cut off a few days ago.

Bun Head bun pins, damp/wet hair, a dab of anti-frizz, practice for speed.

Dance supply stores and Amazon.

They should pay for how many I bought and number of recommendations over the years.

Thanks Capt MJ.

DD has a couple of different methods and has practiced and timed herself.
DH thought he would make it "more realistic" a couple of days ago, so just as she started putting her hair up, he began yelling at her. Typical former USAFA grad. :director: Initially surprised her, but still made it in half the allowed time.

I used a snap clip for my bangs and pony tail holders for the rest of my hair throughout all of Basic. I have pretty long hair that is also very thick. When we were given showers in the middle of the day, my hair would still be very damp at the end of the day. I generally tried to let it sort of dry at night, but that didn't always work super well. Often times, I would wake up in the middle of the night and put my hair up because I was never quite sure when they would be coming to wake us up. Also, side note: 3-in-1 shampoo/conditioner/body wash is fantastic for BCT and Recognition. Your hair won't be as smooth and nice as it would with a traditional shampoo/conditioner set, but it does the trick and it's super fast.

What about items such as fingernail clippers to keep nails cut in regs? They aren't mentioned but are they allowed?

Sorry, to clarify, I mean on day one. Or are items like this purchased on C store visit down the line?

Keep in mind that you will have an opportunity to shop at the C-store at some point during BCT.

We (2019) were issued nail clippers to trim the cables off our ABUs. I'm not sure if that will be continued this year, but I also brought a pair with me and had no problems.

I believe you are allowed to bring personal grooming items -- nail clippers fall into that category.

This kind of goes for both men and women but when we are to bring shampoo and body wash, I know most airlines won't allow the 12 fl oz bottles so do most people just buy them at the airport or once they are at the Academy? I have some packed but I feel like the TSA agents won't allow it through

Just bring the small travel size. You will have the opportunity to get more at the C-store during 1st BCT

My son's B&B sponsor family took him to a store to get his things like that the night before. Depending on which hotel you're at you may be able to walk somewhere to buy it. Most of the hotels near Southgate are right by Walmart. You are correct that you will not be able to bring bottles bigger than 3 oz. on the plane.

I bought a large bottle of 3-in-1 at home, transferred it to travel size bottles, and brought it out here. I ended up needing more so I bought some at the C-Store on one of our trips. I did go to Walmart the night before with my B&B host family to get a few other things that I hadn't brought with me though.
